I’m due to get the Dieppe to Newhaven ferry this week to return to the UK, it’s the 23:59 crossing. Just looking at the timetable, is that correct that the overnight crossing is 6 hours and not the usual daytime 4 hours?

If so, has anyone looked at getting a cabin when onboard and if so how much extra was cabin charge?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Rick.

It arrives at Newhaven at 5:00 a.m UK time. (I am on it tomorrow night and I have used this overnight service before)

Cheers Placido, did you bother with a cabin or crash out on a recliner or somewhere quiet?

Why not give them a ring?

Should be possible to add a cabin to your ticket (eg from £75 for tomorrow night's crossing, or £55 on Thursday night)

Hi, yes, I will give them a ring. I just wondered if anyone has gone to see the purser when onboard and what the onboard charge was.

A single occupancy cabin on ferries is usually a quite costly upgrade.

There is a big issue with truck drivers having to share cabins on certain routes (France to Southern Ireland, Italy to Greece etc) with up to three other drivers / strangers. I’ve had to do it before and it’s not a comfortable thing to have to do.

On our crossing last month I noticed they had drivers pods, think they’re only available to commercial drivers but you could ask at reception.

On the way to Dieppe we just took a couple of throws and slept on the recliners, take earplugs up too just Incase.

I usually take a rolled up self inflating lilo, a pillow & blanket. Find a carpeted spot in the upstairs bar & sleep. Bar is usually shut anyway. They do slow ferry overnight. New boats are very quiet too.

They make bing bong announcements about shop restaurant bar etc opening and closing and wake you up to vacate cabin about an hour before arrival. So probably won't get much sleep anyway.

We found the lounge seats in the tv areas very comfortable and quiet.but we were on day crossings.

We never bother with a cabin. Yes, they throttle the engines back on the overnight crossing, makes sense in a few ways.

Had a cabin a few years ago outward to France, was £35 but I had a haggle and got it for £15.
Only go about 2 hours kit, they want you out of the cabin about an hour before they dock.

I used to cross Hull - Rotterdam twice per week when I was driving for a living, sharing a cabin wasn’t that unusual. If you’re worried, don’t take/leave anything valuable in the cabin. Earplugs might be useful.

If you get onboard sharp the Purser’s office should be your first call to see if ant cabins are available
