We have three dogs, Bruno 19month old Frenchie, Bella four and a half year old Frenchie and Ronnie 14 year old Pug.
I didn’t think Ronnie would see her birthday on the eighteenth of December but she rallied round and seemed ok, not only that but she seemed to keep on going, however the last two weeks she has gone downhill. Hanging on hoping that she would drift off naturally, but the old bugger was determined to carry on, yesterday she was particularly bad, and I was certain she wouldn’t see out the night, this morning still there on a separate bed in the small conservatory where our back door is, I had to pull the bed out as it was partially under a chair and I couldn’t reach her the wooden floor was wet so she had wet herself at some point, took her out as she no longer seemed capable of using the dog flap. Phoned the vets and could only get her in at 4.20 this evening, meanwhile she soiled herself on the fresh bed on the bed, the floor and herself, cleaned her up but still smelly. Our vet Kate said that they very rarely seem to go naturally, so sometime next week we will get her cremated ashes in a small cask and she can join the others caskets Pug, 2 boxers, Labrador, Shitz tzu and 4 cats, top of the cupboard is getting a bit crowded. So bye to Ronnie and go and see your mate Rooney, the Pug who we lost when they were both eight.

Sorry to hear that but seemed to be the best way in the circumstances.:heartbreak:

Been there twice. Hardest part of loving a dog is the kindest act.
Better a week too early than a day too late.
In my experience the vets are very considerate.

I can appreciate your grief.

I have not cried for the death of my mother or brother, but being there when Woody had his final injection had me weeping like a baby.
Look into the dog's eyes, they will tell you it is time. Then be brave and love them one last time.

Sorry to hear that 🙁🙁

Our two boxers were thirteen and a half and twelve and a half when we lost them. Friends on our dog walking fields, one lost there’s at six and the others lost there’s at only three, and this last week they have just turned up with little Obi three months old having said they wouldn’t have another, he’s a little beauty and gets on well with the other regulars, typical bouncy boxer.

This is Hog my 21 year old Jack Russell yes you read correctly 21 years old, born 2nd July 2000 and has 39 countries on his pet passport and is helping us planning his next trip to Turkey in the spring (my vet calls him Methuselah, although he rarely visits her) 😀

Apparently the oldest known one was 26 when he died although according to Guinness records the oldest was 20 years old but I'm not sure what criteria they use to decide that but don't really care about records and neither does wee Hog 🙂🐶

Well that’s weird, Bruno the younger Frenchie usually wants to be up on my knee when my legs are up on the recliner, he lies in between my legs with his head on a cushion across my feet, or he is lay on the sofa with Bella, no sign of him so I went looking, lay on the bed that Ronnie usually uses.

I’m so sorry you had to say goodbye to Ronnie  it’s so hard but you did the kindest thing for him.

Ronnie was a she !
When we got the two pug puppies grandkids named them Rooney and Ronnie (Ronaldo).

I know that feeling and how hard it is.

You sound like amazing dog lovers.

I hope its not too painful.

We’ve had a few over 52 years of marriage, apart from a puppy who got out and dashed across a road and was hit coming back, all have lasted to a good age, other Pug went at 8 riddled with little tumours. All the others have passed the 12 mark.

So sorry to hear of your loss but we can certainly empathise with you having been through a similar experience with our 15-year old border collie, Jack, a week ago last Monday.
He was suffering from severe dementia and also had arthritis in his hips so we decided that his time had come to say goodbye before he lost all dignity. It was the hardest decision we have ever made and, like you and others here, cried our eyes out before, during and after. He will be much missed but remembered forever.

Our Dughter lost her Pug (Named after Me !) run over in the gutter (long, long sad story).

She now lives in the UAE and has "Tricia" Ill post a photo from my mobile.

And one of "Malc" Another long story
