We're having to replace our third failed Truma regulator and have opted to use a cavagna regulator and forget about Securemotion and just travel with the gas off. Which was our policy in any event.
However, the copper tubing in the van is 10mm and is too short for the Cavagna which is shorter than the Truma, so sits too low in relation to the top of the gas bottle. So I'd like to replace a length of the copper pipe and join it with a compressor joint so the regulator can be at the same height as the Truma was. Was sourcing lengths of copper tubing and assumed that the diameter related to the outperform diameter of the tubing but looking on Amazon, there is reference to 100mm outer diameter 8mm inner diameter. Got me a bit confused. Ar the regulators referring to 8mm or 10mm outer or inner diameter?
Also are there suppliers whole supply short lengths of 10mm copper tubing I.e. less than 10 metres. I only need about 6inches.

You’ll probably struggle trying to get less than a 10m coil.

I’d try to befriend your local plumb center or a plumber outside one and go cap in hand to explain your requirements and minimal need for a scrap end......

Failing that.....beg some off Landy Andy ^ 👍🏼 ^

I had the same problem but luckily found a few inches in my plumbing box. If I had some, I would post you some. :-(

Im stuck in France until September but thank you got the generous offer,

I also need a length 6” of 8mm. They dont seem to stock 8mm at all in French DIY shops.

We get stuff from eBay or amazon delivered to us in France no worries it’s 10 mm pipe you need, you can buy it by the meter from most motorhome accessory shops. Auto gas 2000 will post you a short length.
re the secure motion regulator do you have the inline filter fitted. Used to have the same problem but fitted the inline filter change the cartridge every year last van 7 years same regulator, had a gas tank and inline filter fitted to our new van Sept 2019 fridge been on ever since mostly on gas no problems.

Thanks everyone for your unstinting help and advice. Due a domestic crisis (unexpected illness of my better half) I'm unable to deal with this at the moment or to reply to you all.
I'm afraid I made a complete ballsup of it. I thought the copper tubes in the van were 8mm and ordered an 8mm Cavagna bulkhead regulator from Autogas. Chris has been really helpful and even shipped the regulator to France which he doesn't usually do, due to goods not arriving. So it is my fault that I've ordered the wrong regulator. But when I'm feeling more positive I'll figure out what's best. We may need to return to the UK in the van urgently so may do without gas until back in Blighy then just get it sorted.
So thank you all.

Very kind offer, Lofty1 but we’re in Burgundy. Enjoy your trip and thanks.👍

If your pipe work is 10mm and the new regulator fitting 8mm you will need a reducing fitting?. Also, you may find that there is a reduction in flow?. Which might lead to issues if you are pulling gas to all your appliances at the same time?. If/when you get back to York pm me and I have several short lengts of quality copper pipe laying around you can have gratis. Maybe even said fitting? I'm about 7mile from Beverley.

If you regularly use a local camping supplier for your sundries, if they have a workshop ask them our local shops John Cross motorhomes funster discount available and Caravan Tech near by are fabulous and really helpful

Just noticed, as well, that the Cavagna is a 90° model rather than the straight unit. Apart from the connectors obviously being in a different position, is there any other differences and will it still work?
I wish I'd never started this! :blusher:

You need a reducer such as this

but are you now saying you need an elbow on the pipe?
I noticed that there are two types of Cavagna regulators (apart from the 8mm&10mm). Straight (180°) and 90°. I just wondered whether, apart from the difficulty in connecting pigtails, whether there is any functional difference between the straight and 90° regulators.

This is the Cavagna model I got from Autogas 2000 a couple of years ago to replace the faulty Truma one in my motorhome. It specifically says "caravan" on the label, but it has worked fine for us.

Chris at Autogas 2000 has sent me a Cavagna and I doubt there's anyone who knows more about gas, regulators etc for motorhomes than Chris. So I will definitely use it. Autogas 2000 really do offer a first rate service.

T

Thanks for this. There remains some confusion, however. It says for use in caravans and camper vans but in bold says unsuitable for use in mobile homes! So can I or can't use it?
You will probably find mobile home is a static caravan

Just by way of hopefully, a final update, I've received a 10mm Cavagna from Chris at Autogas and it all fits and is working again!
Thanks all for your help. Better half is back 'home' again. Can contemplate a return to U.K. in a couple of weeks. (y)
