Hi

what experience have people had with turning up early for DFDS sailings. Do they generally let you on the next available ferry as opposed to waiting for the one you've booked?

I know, when I've used Eurotunnel in the past you just get on the next available.

Thanks

Yes, usually offered an earlier sailing. Mind you, once when we did so it was full of schoolkids returning from a school trip. Not as relaxing as usual!

My recent experience:

2016 - Dover Dunkirk arrived around 19:30 for a 22:00 sailing (M25 not busy!) was told their was no room on an earlier sailing due to vehicle height (2.5m) I had to leave the Port and return later.

Return journey arrived at around 22:30 for a 04:00 sailing, was told that to get the midnight sailing I would have to pay £80 or I could get on the 02:00 for no extra charge - I went for 02:00 - they then directed me to an area where I could park up (and kip).

Dover Dunkirk 2017 arrived around 19:30 for a 22:00 sailing again and was offered the 20:00 sailing to Calais which I accepted.

Return journey arrived at around 22:00 for a 04:00 sailing, was told again that to get the midnight sailing I would have to pay (didn't give a price) or I could get on the 02:00 for no extra charge, again I parked up & kipped.

So it just depends how busy they are/luck of the draw. In each case the staff were polite & helpful

You can buy flexible tickets, but it is more expensive.

DFDS seem reasonable on dover france or vice versa turning up early but the flexi ticket for £20-30 add on charge each way does give nice bit of leeway ( no flexi option on newhaven - dieppe route though)

Have had similar experience , Dover to Calais and reverse , opted to
go on earlier , straight round and up the ramp, and also next but one , both no extra charge . I think sometimes depends who is on the kiosk if asking for extra payment .

They usually let you on the one before your time.
