Hello folks,
We have just had two glorious weeks touring in Devon & Cornwall with the sun blazing almost every day.
The places we visited where picturesque and the locals made us feel very welcome especially the cafe's, bars and restaurants.
We have France booked for late July and although I would love to go I will now be quite happy to stay in the UK and travel back down to this lovely place and explore further.
My only concern is will the roads be crammed during the school holidays and will the pubs and restaurants be packed and unable to get booked in.

We too found Devon and Cornwall a delight. I think it will be very busy and if you want to eat somewhere specific you will need to book.

If Easter was anything to go by then yes it will be very busy and probably best to plan and book places you want to stay and visit

Except to walk more and use public then use you van to nip to places due to the congestion on the roads

Anyway have a super fun time and life is slow in the van

Good morning from Braunton in North Devon,
Yes the roads will be very busy and you will need to book sites and restaurants.
But it’s a lovely part of the world and September is a good time to visit.

Mike.

Good move C57, we will make you most welcome. You may be interested the tallest sailing ship in the World (Golden Horizon) will be in Fowey on 04th and 10th July and Falmouth on 03rd and 09th. Both places are worth a look if you haven't been before. Any help needed just shout!

We found the same two weeks ago. We never book ahead usually but did so this time,in January, just as well we did, sites are difficult to find to say the least. It will be rammed in peak season.
Off to Sussex, Dorset, next. Just as nice but much nearer to us.
Phil

Bugger, not going to StAustell until PM on 5th only 2 nights and then up to St Ives
Might it still be in Fowey on 5th?

Nattering to the owner of the site we are on in South Devon, he is currently busier than last year with very limited availability. Once the school holidays start there is no availability until September.

We are visiting also starting from the 3rd, but hopping from Dorset into Devon then Cornwall and finally north Devon.
I was surprised at the number of sites who don't or won't accommodate less than 4 night stays, we don't want to drive much once there, just go on foot in the area to explore, plus have a dog who likes long walks!
Keeping fingers crossed for good weather!

I have a TOAD for getting into the sightseeing nooks and crannies

Well for what it’s worth it’s heaving it down today and roads around us in the central area have been far too busy for us.

We are normally away in France but become tourists elsewhere in UK for July and August. We like Cornwall in the winter months but we don’t have any businesses here to you all.

Tbh August I always think of as a wet month but I really hope this year it will be better.

Returned home today from a week near Newquay and a week in Looe. A jolly nice fortnight but I had forgotten how narrow the roads are.

Does the Pope s*** in the woods?

We have time off in September and are planning Devon and Cornwall. Just about to start to look at booking sites; any recommendations would be very welcome.

Sites all booked
Eden and Minack pre-booked
Sadly this is why I don't much enjoy motorhoming in England.

I never want to have to book where I stay in advance. Prefer to decide at some point during any given day where we will stay that night.

Grew up / brought our kids up in Devon. It's a beautiful place, but that doesn't compensate me for the inability to travel and stopover spontaneously.

Tunnel tomorrow!

This is why i enjoy our hobby
All planned, nothing to worry about (I would stress horrendously if nowhere planned) yet we are all different
isnt that wonderful that you can tour your way and i can tour mine ?

Yes, North Devon is certainly going to be busy. We are fortunate to have a great bus service No 21 & 21A which covers from Westward Ho!, Appledore, Bideford, Barnstaple and Ilfracombe. If you can find a site near that route then travelling around is very simple.

That is what makes it so great. All of us different, and enjoying the same hobby in different ways. No criticism whatsoever from me - just personal preferences and acceptance of however anyone else enjoys their van 👍👍

We came down to Newton Abbot yesterday. 3hr delay on the M5 from junction 21 -25. We have a beautiful country to explore but we don't have the infrastructure to cope with en masse travel of the scale 'Staycations' bring.

I'll be there later today, M5 kindness required, a quiet site near Mullacott Cross, Ilfracombe and Woolacombe.

Number 21 to Barnstable, Braunton, Croyde and Ilfracome.

We had a fantastic week near Padstow the week before last. Could not have been better. Don’t forget your windbreak though if you’re on the North Coast as despite the sun it can blow!

Friendly, great food. Padstow was as you’d expect but there are so many little gems. We had our electric bikes and the cars seemed to be very considerate of us and I’m a big baby! Wouldn’t do it in July and August though when busy and tempers frayed.

We’ve been in Devon for the past week - maybe we’ve been unlucky but the traffic has been horrendous and it seems very busy to me. And the weather has been very disappointing. Oh well.

We are fortunate enough to live in Cornwall, we avoid July & August at the best of times let alone in the current situation.

We have just returned from a a split break between North Cornwall & Mid & North Wales, booked as we went as we normally do, no problem in either area in early June, doubt it will be the same during the school holiday period. Have to say the honey pot areas where busy already though, Padstow was packed as was LLanberis.

Enjoy whatever you decide.

We had a glorious week in St Ives,we are now in Tavistock, the weather is atrocious but we are still managing to get out and about,we leave this coming Saturday just as the weather is getting better.
We love the UK but the downside is that the weather is unpredictable and a lot off sites are rammed with visiting campers.
