Got a new bike but it has a paint chip on the frame so looking to protect it asap.
Someone suggested using a Nail Polish of a similar colour followed by a lacquer,
Has anyone tried this or have any other suggestions?

Not looking to spray at all or anything like that.

Yes a touch up kit for car paint or even nail varnish as you suggest will keep the water out and protect the substrate.

Clear varnish (for metal/wood ) will last longer than nail varnish if it a little chip I wold not bother to try to match the paint just seal it

Any automotive paint should be ok to touch it up and protect it.

If you want to match the colour then nail polish, or model paints will do the job. Then cover with lacquer.

Thanks all. I like the model paint idea, a bit more of something I am used to rather than nail polish :)
But Ill have a look at Car paints as well such as chip sticks.

I trick i often use is to fill the chip then add some form of sticker, something that would look in place. It can some times work depending upon the bike and where the chip is.
