Anyone know of anyone able to cut cruciform keys? I bought a good quality German hitch lock but it only has two keys. I can effortlessly lose three keys a year, so want to get more cut.

Thanks

I used to cut keys in a former life and would think these could be cut in a normal cylinder key cutting machine.
The biggest problem, I reckon, will be finding the necessary blanks.

Try a local locksmith?

Google Cruciform key cutting?

Try Timpsons?

Why do you think I asked here? ::bigsmile: ::bigsmile: ::bigsmile:

Nothing round here, and Timpsons looked at me as if I was asking for the key to eternal life!!

Just tried another, bigger Timpsons, six miles away. Phoned first, "Yeah should be able to mate. Got a couple of different sized blanks."

Got there, and was rewarded with an actual whistled intake of breath, "Oooh no, we'd 'ave to send off for this one mate. Gonna be thirty nine quid ninety nine pee but your second one is half that."

After they revived me with smelling salts I told him that the lock cost only twenty quid and I politely declined their offer of service.
Well, perhaps I could have been slightly more polite, but nearly sixty quid for two effing keys?

Timpson's are well overpriced for keys. The one in a hut outside our local Tesco quoted me £16 for a bog standard Euro lock key that I got cut at an independent in the local market for £4.50.

Hey! The Germans have replied:

Sehr geehrter Kunde,

vielen Dank für Ihre Nachricht und Ihr damit verbundenes Interesse an unseren Produkten.
Leider haben wir keine Ersatzschlüssel vorhanden.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards

Which roughly translates as no we don't do spare keys, and have got your money, so sod off.

This bloody thing is going onto the classifieds...

Be grateful that they're inspiring you take more care of them.

;)

Have you tried replacement keys ltd? They can cut most kinds of key, either from the code or a close up photograph.

When I asked the man at Timpsons if he had the key to eternal life, he said he’d just had normal life and was released on license after serving half his term. 🙂

Some local markets tend to have good key cutters.
But the question has to be asked if you spend half your life traipsing round searching then the Timpsons may seem a good offer when time and costs considered.

Can't find anyone willing to cut it that won't charge more then twice the cost of the lock!!

So it's gone back to Mr Bezos.

Which is encouraging if they ever return to their former profession, because Timpsons haven't been able to do the last two keys I have asked for.
Unimpressed, TBH.

Agreed. Despite them being more expensive, it's one of the reasons I use them.

John Timpson and his wife also fostered ~ 90 children. And the company still provide free holidays for adoptive families.

If you're unemployed and have an interview, they'll clean your interview suit for free.

I have often used them, but they are missing a trick by offering the same bog standard, basic service that you can get anywhere.
