I just attempted to obtain a Crit' Air sticker for France.

However, when I enter details and specifically the 'date of first registration' details, this is what appears.......

"Your vehicle is too old and does not meet the criteria for the award of an air quality certificate (it therefore emits too many pollutants). We cannot respond to your request."

I have a 'Foster & Day' 2.3 Mercedes diesel motorhome first registered in August 1990.

Will this mean that I am exempt (he said fancifully) or that I am going to get fines wherever I go?

This does not mean you can’t drive an older vehicle in France. It only means you can’t drive in any zone with restrictions. If you do, you'll be fined

Unfortunately you will get fined if you go into emission zones. Stay away from the big towns and in most cases you will be OK.

Is that correct as only a few emissions zones are permanently active (Paris, Rouen, Grenoble etc.) the others are only active when promulgated so because of high pollution.

I cannot see why one would be fined for not having a Crit'Air sticker if the zone were not promulgated as active.

I wondered what that sticker was on my windscreen. Bought MH 3 years ago in Germany. How long does the Crit’ Air sticker last …is it for life of the vehicle or yearly ?

Only seems to be Rouen, Grenoble and Paris. And Grenoble is awful !

20 Years ago I used to take Hymer and park it on the Banks of the Seine under the Eiffel Tower…they’d probably blow it up now…

No, not at all. You're just not allowed in all the zones which require a crit'air sticker.
Mine is 1991.
You will have to make your own route with your own homemade map specifying which road or towns you're not allowed on.

Has it not also been re-registered so the sticker no longer pertains to the registration, which would make it invalid.
Oh….well won’t go to Rouen, Paris and certainly not Grenoble. Not only is Grenoble awful but there are an inordinate number of Speed Cameras there…pity about Paris but ever since it became almost impossible to wild camping in the center have gone to Maison Laffitte and got RER in anyway….I think it was €54 a night last time I went….probably more now !

Although I love France it’s starting to annoy me, speed cameras everywhere, too many roundabouts, toll fees going up, stupid Angles Morts stickers you are meant to put on if you are over 3,500 KG, speed limits down to 50Kms or whatever it is on dual carriage ways where everyone else is doing 110kms… and now shortage of Gasoil and riots in Bordeaux !

Places like Greece now feel a lot freer and less bureaucratic….and Greek people less arrogant than French on the whole… nice wine though…

I think the French authorities could overwhelm their own enforcement system, especially in relation to foreign registered vehicle where they have to manually chase details of the owner/driver.

That is very true….I apply common sense and ignore most of it…..however not much one can do by on the spot fines …I’ve heard that if you say you haven’t got the cash or card they will escort you to a cash point… although if you say you haven’t got a card not sure if that would help. I suppose they would say well how are you paying for petrol ? Hope I never find out.

Greece you just bung them €20 …..much better system 😊

Just bought mine online this morning, critair 2, fairly straightforward once I’d worked out how to convert a photo to pdf! Not sure we will need it for our month in June, but just in case.

I am driving to South of Lille on motorway in 2 weeks, which goes "underneath" Lille. Lille requires a crit air sticker but would I need one if driving around Lille? Same goes for any town/city🤔🤔🤔

Depends where the limits are, but usually they aren’t outside of the cities (Rouen is a complicated story). Check your SatNav or Google or Waze - they should indicate which roads go through ‘environmental zones’
