Hi all has anyone taken a 10metre plus Motorhome to Crete via Italy (Ancona). We have a toad with us. Have traveled Italy many times but not Greece.
thanks in advance

We spent a week in Crete last year for a wedding and it really is a charming place as are the people. The one thing that terrified me was the state of the mountainous interior ”roads”, at times they were no better than rutted tracks and at times simply weren’t there at all.
As if this was not bad enough most of the time we were driving at altitude in the hills with sheer drops either side without barriers and many hairpin bends.
During one trip we encountered three Italian reg motorhomes stuck by the side of the road, the road in front of them had almost crumbled away and there was not enough room for them to turn around. I just maxed the revs in our underpowered Fiat people carrier and virtually flew over the broken part of the carriageway, hearts in mouth.
If it were at all possible I would try and plan a route using the main roads around the edge of the island and completely avoid any route that would take you into the interior and the mountainous parts. The coastal main roads were quite good and safe compared with the interior.

Awesome that’s exactly the info I’m looking for. Thanks

Also guys. Has anyone traveled from Ventimiglia (Italian border) to Genoa. Just wondered after the collapsed roadway

Done inland Crete 18 years ago on a motorbike and that's all the roads are fit for.Decent roads around the coast.BUSBY.

It seems around the coast with the Motorhome it is then and visit inland in the toad.

Busman went there last year and is there again now. I'm sure he (Dave) will be along shortly and give you up to date info on this. Were planning Greece for next year and Crete is also on my radar.
