On Sunday 6th April my wife was cut up in her car on the A23 coming up to the roundabout going left onto the A27 coming home. She had picked up our grandson who was coming to stay for a few days. A black Mercedes cut straight in front of her and slammed on his brakes. She hit him hard and a car ran into the back of her. She suffered burns to the neck and severe bruising to her chest and abdomen. My grandson suffered burns to his face. The burns were caused by the airbags.
The Mercedes driver jumped out and said no need to call the police we can just exchange details. She phoned me straight away and I called the police who attended. An ambulance also attended. Her car was written off (Suzuki Alto) which she bought new in 2014. It crumpled like a Coke can.
Her insurance (Ageas) have been brilliant and settled within nine days. She had her first physio visit this week and it turns out she has severe whiplash which takes an average of 11 months to heal.
The insurance company are going after the Mercedes driver as they believe he may have a history of this.

I do hope your wife and grandson are ok and make a full and speedy recovery
I live near one of the main arteries to and from Manchester
One of the roundabouts nearby became notorious for this kind of criminal activity, so much so that the occupants of an office building noticed what was going on and informed the police
Police monitoring discovered that a gang were instigating rear-end collisions, such as you describe, with the aim of making spurious insurance claims. They, too, did not care about the consequences to the innocent motorists they involved. They only cared about the “soft” approach of the insurance companies.
In this case the gang were identified and prosecuted (the ringleaders, I believe, went to prison)
I don’t know if your local police would be prepared to follow up your incident in collaboration with the insurers
Best wishes

Wishing them a speedy recovery.

Brilliant example of when front and rear dash cams should be needed/used

So sorry to hear this I hope she makes a full recovery.
We often use that junction living just along the road in Lancing.

Just to say this is not the normal way they do crash for cash there are normally 2 cars in front of their victim the front car slam on their brakes forcing the second car to brake heavy it induce you to crash into the car in front of you then the front car drives away if recorded on camera the car you have crashed into can plead he is a victim.
I hope everyone recovers quickly.

I hope they both recover well, what an awful experience for both of them.

Exactly why a dash cam should be used on every vehicle, then no argument who’s at fault,

I agree completely about dash cams. Even cheap Chinese ones costing about £30 provide HD video footage that can be used as evidence and will save it to the memory card automatically when they detect a shock. No need to splash out on the bling brands with lots of bells and whistles costing hundreds.

If you read the handbook you might find that modern cars with built-in cameras for "driver assistance" features also save the images in the event of a collision. They also have an e-call button to press that summons the emergency services. Usually it sits on the headlining above the driver.

Best wishes for a complete recovery. I had whiplash after a van smashed into the back of my stationary car at a red traffic light, so I understand recovery takes a while, and you probably need physio (insurers should pay for private physio) to regain full neck movement. The victims should claim significant compo for personal injury from the crash-on driver at fault.

Hope your wife & grandson are bith ok now.
Its one of the reasons we have Dash cams in our car & MH. I had a no fault RTA which dragged in for 18 months & daughter had a crash for cash incident a few years back.
Definitely worth the investment.

Sorry to hear about your family's injuries. I've had dash cams in my car and van for over 8 years and would never be without one. It seems these days there's someone trying to scam you at every turn, and they don't care what damage they do physically or mentally. Anything but earn an honest living. :(

Hope your wife and grandson are both ok, that’s a scary thing to happen. I don’t understand how they benefit from this …
