We've been in France and Spain since the year began, right now in Alcossebre...

North of Valencia, where they've just announced a Covid 19 confirmed case.

We are booked on a BF sailing in a couple of weeks time back to Portsmouth.

I assume BF is testing people's temperature before letting them board? Because any passenger falling ill on the trip would have catastrophic consequences.

Anyone know?

Gerry

Testing temperature will only pick up someone showing symptoms already if they are about to develop symptoms it won't help.

I guess that would be pot luck, we're all going to get it sooner or later.
But I'd hate to turn up for loading with a cold and be refused boarding, I paid £470 for the tickets
Just thinking if I get a cough (chap in next pitch has got one!) I'd be better off changing to Caen Portsmouth and driving back thru France.

You might be better changing pitches to move away from the chap with a cough. (y)

A complete and utter waste of time, this virus will spread no matter what we do and will take it's toll until it dies down of it's own accord or some treatment is found. At best any measures will only slow the spread.

Which is the rationale for implementing them, as time could make a difference.

From what I have heard and read it could be 12 months before any effective treatment/vaccination is found, don't think that in such a timescale any slowing down will make much difference with the rate that it is spreading.

Everyone, stop what you're doing (reading this, presumably), turn to the person on your left and give them a big kiss, tongues and everything. Repeat with the person on your right. Repeat several times a day, wherever you happen to be. Let's get this thing over with! ;)

Did what you said.
Now in Torquay police station.
Man sat next to me on bus didn’t appreciate it.
Nor did the 90 year old woman sat on right across the aisle

Oops, sorry :oops2:

It may avoid an infection peak occurring in the midst of the flu season, it might (although we don't know yet) mean that the virus becomes less virulent in warmer weather as is the case with some other coronaviruses, it could cause infection clusters to have staggered peaks and avoid mass simultaneous infection peaks. No-one knows how long it might take to find an effective treatment or vaccine. 12 months is no more than a guess. It could be years or it might be months, but giving ourselves more time is at least doing something. I read in one of the research updates linked from The Lancet that a doctor has already begun self administering trials of a promising drug, which if successful could be licensed for clinical trials within weeks. Do we try and create what chances we can, or just dig ourselves holes and lie in them (metaphorically speaking)?

Never mind the virus, just avoid the cafeteria's coq-au-vin.

It would be pretty boring if they quarantined you on board for two weeks.

Starting to flap now!
The missus has a cold and we are catching the BF back in a week or so.
My question is:
A) Do I leave her behind with the dog?
B) Do I hid her in the garage with the duty free?
Help?!

Take her to the vets for worming with the dog. Passport stamped. You'll be fine. :)

Leave her behind but take the dog.

the Chinese institute in Wuhan applied for international patents on a cure for the covid-19 virus a couple of weeks ago. So it already exists, just trying to make as much money as possible to save the world from a virus they probably created

Authorative source please?

Seems OK to me. As the article states, seeking a patent acknowledges and protects the existing intellectual property rights of the drug's owner Gilead Sciences, when the Chinese could instead have invoked an emergency compulsory licensing option that would have overridden Gilead's rights in protecting and utilising their own product.

By doing it this way, Gilead still have an overriding say in use of their drug which could otherwise have been lost.

In other words they have sought permission to carry out clinical trials when they could instead have just "stolen" it.

Update - no chance catching the virus, too rough to leave the cabin, we were warned to be careful in the cabins and bathrooms, so stayed flat on beds. :giggle::giggle::giggle:The emergency procedures were repeated a few times. Had two tugs take us into Cherbourg port for staff change, as they had been stuck in Santander for three days, the wind was too strong for the ferry to do it alone.

The first fifteen hours were bad but it eased off after that. This crossing took 34 hours.

What boat were you on? That does not sound like fun and we’re pretty good sailors. Glad you’re back.

Also thought a mention, customs in UK were checking every vehicle, had to open all lockers on the motorhome, but they never asked if we had been to Italy.
