On the assumption your route will take you no where near the plough inn new forest, and you don't want to stray too far off the motorway then I would suggest you pull off the M27 at Junction 8 and follow the A27 towards Fareham. You will pass at least 4 good pubs and easy back on at Junction 9. If you have more time to kill then I suggest dropping into Winchester for a huge choice or Wickham just North of Fareham

It's M27 Jct 10 for Wickham - first exit off the island (ie turn left), signpost says North Boarhunt only (or it used to) or follow the island round to the right for Fareham. In the car - there are some good eateries in Wickham itself - or there used to be.
