Could you drive this on a normal uk driving license?

Solution2
Wayne_Lisa If you passed your driving test before January 1997, you will have the C1 category already on your licence, allowing you to drive up to a maximum weight of 7500Kgs, towing a 750Kg trailer, so a total of 8,250Kgs.
If after that date, you are restricted to a B category of 3500kgs.

HTH,

Jock. :)
I think you need C1 for this, depending on when you took the driving test you may have it on your license.

Physically check the licence.
Some people slipped through the net in 1997 and didn't get all they were entitled to.....including C1E

This is where some of us got robbed when we got the photo card driving license. We used to have a MAM of 12 tonne. When my license came back it came with a 107 on it,

It's the 'Max weight 3850' that does it. Over 3500kg you need a C1. I don't suppose it's relevant to you, but if you are over 70 you lose the C1 entitlement if you renew online. To keep the C1 entitlement you have to fill in the forms and have a medical - every 3 years.

I reckon any motorhome longer than 7m and wider than 2.3m (rough guide) is going to need a C1 license. I base this on my Carthago Compactline which is supposedly one of the lightest weight constructions around. It is 6.99m long by 2.22m wide. We managed to run it at just under 3500kg for a year, with 2 occupants. The spare capacity was marginal and I have now uprated it.

I’ve still got 12 ton on mine
When did you pass your car test?
How?, I passed my test in 1988.
Are you sure you haven't got a 107?
I've got 12 ton on mine too, passed test in 1983:

If anyone wants to check their licence details they can do so as follows:
  1. Go to: Broken Link Removed
  2. Choose a company to verify you - I used the Post Office but both easy to use
  3. Register an account
  4. Once verified you will be able to view your driving licence info

could you pop up a picture of the back of your photo license?

Swifter 107 means no more than 8,250Kg, it's what I have on mine as well, <Broken link removed> explains them all.

What you referred to above is for anyone passing a C1E post 2013
Post 2013 you only had provisional for C1E and had to take a seperate test.
Pre 1997 is restriction 107 ON YOUR Licence.
Physically check your licence for restriction 107 after the C1 entry.

I have 107 next to C1E but no 107 next to my C1 .
So the max I can drive and tow is a 7.5tonne vehicle with a 750kg trailer ?

However, you can tow a larger trailer with a smaller vehicle. For example, mine has a MAM of 4500kg and max trailer weight of 3000kg. With a GTW of 7500kg, this may be driven on a C1E/107.

GTW not exceeding 7500kg gives some advantages wrt operator licencing for non-commercial operation, which is presumably why the trailer weight is limited to 3000kg, not 3500kg.

P.S. There is no need for a 107 on your vanilla C1. C1 includes max 7500kg vehicle and 750kg trailer, which is 8250kg total, so is already, by definition, limited to max 8250kg.

I too have the C1E at 12 tonnes, which expires on the same date as my C+E and D+E. I then revert to my C1E at a max of 8.25 tonnes, which expires when I am 70, unless I apply to retain it.

The whole licence thing can be a nightmare, if you don't keep up with the changes. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Compare old and new.

Check year test passed

LOOK At your licence and if C1 or C1E are followed by code 107 you are restricted to 8250kg.

https://www.gov.uk/old-driving-licence-categories
Just realised my mistake.
C1 won't have a code 107 as it's already restricted to a 750kg trailer.
Unlike C1E, This DOESN'T mean you can drive a 5000kg van and a 3250kg trailer..... The 750kg limit is a fixed limit.
