After we sold our last motor home, we thought we would try caravanning, after a few years we longed for a motor home again and so we bought a 2004 Adria Twin on a Ducato base. When we had our motor home, we had a solar panel on the roof and when we were caravanning, we used a folding portable solar panel to top up the leisure battery when we were off-grid.
Now, the caravan has gone and we have our camper van and I was wondering what would be the best way to connect our portable solar panel to our van. I had the solar panel connected directly to the caravans leisure battery but I was wondering if it is possible to connect the solar panel to the 240volt hook-up socket if we are off-grid?

No that will not work, your solar panel outputs Direct Current at around 13v. Let us know the details of the panel, should be on a label somewhere, voltage and wattage, if it is over 40watt you will need a controller to regulate the voltage. There is a lot more that I could mention but need to know what you have.

IIRC my portable panel is 180watt with a built in controller. I will have to dig it out to check.
