I think I might answer my own question here but before I order another lead that I will never ever use could you please advise.

Want to watch movies/Netflix on tv via iPad.

Do I just need a lead that connects to iPad with HDMI to TV?

There’s a lot on line is it best to buy Apple or can I get away with a cheaper version?

Thanks

I am sure there are wiser than i on this subject, but Apple devises dont like communicating with non apple devices...

there is likely a simple way but i doubt it will be just as simple as plugging one to the other.

its certainly not when you try connecting Apple to windows or Android as i have discovered.

however i hope someone has a more positive answer for you.. i will be interested also.

One (expensive) way that definitely works is an Apple TV device HDMI to your telly. Have a small wifi network and then just airplay your iPad through the Apple TV

Thanks for the feed back but I don’t think I’ll buy an Apple TV!

What about if I use a Samsung tablet? Would that work?
Thanks

i am confident it will be easier with a samsung tablet.. my eldest who is an avid apple supporter had our samsung tablet off us so he could stream stuff to tv for the kids..

Ok thanks I’ve ordered one on Amazon I’ll let you know if it works.

Thanks again.

Your Samsung tablet may work if it is MHL compatible but I think you will need an adapter..

This is the adapter I use with my samsung galaxy tab 10.1 inch tablet but there are different ones available

Amazon product ASIN B00MN26HYQ
If your tv is already MHL compatible then the lead you have ordered (I presume HDMI to micro usb) might work without the adapter.

Hope this helps

Thanks very much I’ll give it a go

Assuming you have internet because you want to watch Netflix, how about the Samsung tablet and a chrome cast or fire stick?

Hi

Yes this is an option but im not banking on internet so this would mostly be for Netflix programmes that have already been downloaded.

Thanks

We use an iPad to watch Netflix through the Avtex, you need to buy the Apple Lightning connecter which then takes an HDMI cable. Cost around €40 here in Spain but works very well but you need decent WiFi.
Would also work with downloaded content.

We connect our iPad and iPhone to our avtex tv using a flash to HDMI lead, originally we brought a cheap one from ebay and that did not work, we then swapped for an apple one and no problems.

We use it forTv catch. Up, using iPhone data and also for Netflix

OK thanks for all the advice I think I will wait for the lead to arrive for Samsung and see if that works.

I'll let you all know how I get on :)

Hi All
Well we have had our first trip away and the new Avtex TV worked really well picture was great. In the end we didn't need to connect any tablet as I've bought a load of box set DVDs off Ebay (enough to last about 3 years)!!
The one thing I am really pleased with is the Avtex sound bar it is absolutely brilliant and it's Bluetooth so you can also use spotify fits nicely under the TV as well!

Just managed to find an Apple connector to play my stored iPlayer programmes from the iPad to our TV.
Glad to say it works a treat although it was a bit expensive in France at €59 plus I also needed a HDMI cable.
If anyone needs to get one the Apple part No. is A1438. Lightning to Digital AV.
The adaptor also has a Lightning input so you can also charge the iPad while you watch.

Richard.
