I don't think you can, I just wedged a plastic pipe into the existing flange and directed it to the new vents.

You don't need an adapter, just giving the hot air an outlet will help. Here are our photos.

A paintspray can cap was used to to give a little direction to the hot air and ducttape to prevent the hairs from the insulation coming through

I bought Hafele vents online from a german company. We used 2 to get maximum air through. I bought some from amazon first as they were easy to get but turned out to be 100mm and we thought that it would weaken the footrest too much so then got these 60mm ones.

Well we haven't got our van with comfortmatic yet, but have bookmarked this, I hate cold feet.

All the gear, and no idea!
I have just got a LHD A class fiat comfortmatic, will I have to do a mod or is it only troublesome on RHD?

Yours should be ok as it is the left foot rest on the RHD that blocks the air coming out. I assume your air vent will be clear as your foot rest will be on the outside . The hot air comes out of a Y shaped downwards and sideways vent, one leg of Y each side of central column .

As the OP on this thread and nearly 3 years on - just to say we remain entirely happy having removed the footrest completely.

It actually has the added benefit of providing a little extra leg room. (y)

could these vents be fitted like you have done in situ without removing the panel?

I don't think it would be very easy to do it in situ. You would have to lie upside down on the cab floor to wield your drill with hole saw attachment. I will ask husband his thoughts in the morning.

Few years now
I was talking to someone at a Burtsner rally this weekend who told me about this issue with automatics. When I checked mine I found there was very little air blowing in the drivers footwell.
As I had some spare reinforced waste pipe I did the same mod as Gadget John, seems to be fine now. Took less than an hour to sort out.

Have just done this mod on my Ducato 2021 9 speed auto PVC. The recessed 10mm nut nearest to the cup holders was a tough nut to ‘crack!’ I ended up removing the central twin cupholder, but even then there wasn’t enough room to get a 1/4 inch drive long reach socket and ratchet onto it, even having loosened the trim panel that sits immediately forward of the cupholder panel.
I managed to get an open ended 10mm spanner on it eventually to loosen it. When I replaced it (having cut the hole in the panel and put the 60mm diameter vent in) I just did it up finger tight.
I put a single vent in towards the top (see photo) - it should do the job. I cut the ‘horsehair’ insulation behind the panel off as far down as the point where the panel goes from an angle to near vertical.IMG_6577.jpeg

Thanks to all the contributors to this topic (y)

We collected our 2023 Rapido V68 automatic last month. Was out in it the other day and my feet were freezing! Fiddled about with the heater but of course it made no difference. Thankfully found the info on here and have just removed the footrest/blanking plate so hoping to have warm feet next time out. Will decide later whether to fit a vent to it and replace it.

Anyone any idea what the point of the insulating material on the back is? Is it sound deadening or something? Or maybe it's to stop the heat getting through (BTW, told the missus I've moved the heat from her side to mine so she will have the cold feet now!)

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
Should have bought a LHD they don't have the problem.
Back in the 70's I bought a new r/h drive Renault 5 which was awful in rain as the w/screen wipers were still positioned for l/h drive and they only swept 2/3rds of the driver's field of view.
