Hi

I have a movano pvc 2002 which is great but quite compact with myself and 2 kids let alone the Mrs and the older 2 kids.

Would it be sensible to upgrade to a coach built motorhome 2000 ish MK2 Ducato 6 berths

I would gain more space 2 lounges and the overhead bunk would be ace...

but I would loose manoverability, problems with damp, possibly engine issues......

What do people think?

Are there any threads on pros Vs cons of pvc Vs coach built??

Cheers James

It’s all about compromising. We started big then pvc now big again we can’t get to some places but not many. We do prefer the space in the van though

You could hire a 4 or 6 berth coachbuilt MH to see if that would suit your family better than the PVC and if you can handle the different manoeverability etc. In the low season the hire rates will be cheaper.

Several threads debating the difference between PVC's and Coachbuilts.... most recommend renting as the best/only way to come to a decision on what features are important to you, and what compromises you are willing to live with.

Do you like McDonald's? With our UPVC we can use the drive-thru and park in the car park. 😃

Are you saying that at times you need to carry 2 adults and 4 kids? If so how do you manage that now for travelling in a Movano (ie seatbelts) and payload?

There are MHs that will accommodate 6+ but you need to be very careful about the payload and axle loadings.

We haven't as yet.

It has capacity to carry 6 with seatbelts I doubt be we get onto the M62 before a domestic occured.

I use it as a day van primarily and on socialy distanced visits to me elderly parents.

We have a caravelle too which my oldest slept in when we had the caravan.

Just thinking aloud. The movano has our caravan inside so has sentmental value and only 50k on the clock....

Cheers James

If you have older kids who only sometimes come along, towing a small caravan can be an idea. They can especially like the idea of a separate living/sleeping space without their parents in it.

I assume it has 2 rows of 3 automative type seats with the caravan gubbings behind it? You could consider a roof tent to give your more sleeping space without extending the length, alternatively install a rising roof with bed to give you more berths, unfortunately though you're gonna have to live with the existing interior space if you want to keep the manoeuvrability etc - could you do anything to make the seats swivel (assuming they don't already)?

Had 3 coach built all leaked now have a Pvc. No leaks go Pvc so much easier to look after.
