.........sorry,not giving a tip,but in need of some suggestions please.

Trying to get through a narrow gap between a lorry and a hedge,I managed to scrape the side of the van on the lorries wing mirror. :(:( The result is a four feet long deposit of black plastic/rubber from the mirror casing on to my plastic windows. Only about a quarter of an inch wide at the worst bit. Fortunately there are no dents.

I’ve tried elbow grease, white vinegar solution and car polish, without success.

Any ideas please??????

TIA:giggle:

I.P.A.

Try some White Spirit, very good for removing the likes of surplus sealant

possibly toothpaste or fenwicks windowise , I think (but not sure) brasso .

DO NOT USE THINNERS it will cause a crazing effect

Any kind of solvent is likely to affect the plastic of the windows. A very, very mild abrasive is probably best, as sold for scratches. Toothpaste is very very very mild so with a bit of elbow gease it should work.

Brasso or maybe even T-cut but I'd try them on an unobtrusive area first and go very carefully and not try to use it dry.

Then when you've tried all those, I suggest you try a double brandy. :(. Hate it when things like this happen.

Just a suggestion, I sometimes find WD40 brings certain marks off... But I'm not sure how safe it is.

The restorer first then the polish, if you were near to Durham you could have had a squirt of each.

If the windows are formed from extruded acrylic, using IPA could prove to be an expensive mistake.

As suggested, Fenwicks Windowize works well on scratches and is designed for use on plastic and acrylic motorhome windows without doing any damage, so I would think it would do the job.

Thanks to all.......off to sunny Norfolk for a few days now,so if I cant get it off tonight with what Ive got in my shed it’ll have to wait till I return.

When it happened I wasn’t greatly peed off as I was expecting much worse, and a bit of black on the Windows was a lot better than I expected.:giggle:(y)
