Any tips for products/techniques for cleaning the roof. Even after trying to clean it with water and mild fairy liquid, it remains slightly grey with darker grey sploges all over it.

I used Jennychem cleaner. 100% effective. Diluted spray to roof, leave for about 3 minutes then I use a microfibre on a mop to agitate it, then hose off. Very little effort and brought our black and green roof garden back to white. We live under trees, so it gets heavy sap layer, difficult to remove with normal soap and water or even snow foam.

Another (y) for Jennychem Caravan cleaner. At the moment I’m having to park near a mature sycamore tree and the leaves and seeds leave a horrendous mess on the roof. A quick blow off with the pressure washer on medium, then a good dose with diluted cleaner, agitated and left for 5-10 minutes before rinsing, has it looking like new.

Am not afraid of heights but am nervous about standing on the roof to clean it. To date. I have an A Class and

I have a telescopic 3mtr extension of the type used by decorators with a screw thread on the end, the brush head screws onto it.

I just used water and turtle wax car shampoo . My roof was green having sat for years unloved. Then once it was washed a good polish with autoglym super resin polish and a coat of wax.

No point in washing it if you don't follow it up with a polish and wax or it will be dirty again in no time. Wax it and the water will bead and run off.

Good time to check all the seals round your skylights etc too as they should be redone every few years.

Another 👍 for Jennychem, cleans the roof (and anywhere else that’s got black marks) effortlessly.

I've got a smaller van, but find the main large sized Heki rooflight useful to access the bulk of the roof by using a normal floor mop and standing on the top step of a step ladder poking through the larger Heki. For those areas I can't reach I use some foam rubber pipe insulation over the edge of ladder uprights to avoid it slipping or damaging the van sides. This way I don't have to climb on the roof, as I have recently acquired a fear of heights.

Why would you need to stand on the roof. It's all accessible from a ladder

When washed give it a good polish then it should look better.
I think key is to do a few times year ,
As for technique hold the ladder firmly as you don’t want the wife falling off the roof before she finished cleaning it . 😬

Don't laugh, it happens

this should give you all something to smile about.

raining cats and dogs all day today so i thought id wash the van roof......logic being, its nice and wet up there so all the crap will be really soft and easy to remove.

not bothered about getting wet.....skins waterproof anyway.

no fixed ladder so up with the double extension and the hose pipe and soft brush.

going at it like a screaming demon, van rocking like a nodding dog, when i heard it......the ladder hitting the ground:Eeek:

now, im on the roof, shirls at work, neighbours are out. Sh.t !!!!!

had a paddy and threw the brush and hose off the roof.

10ft !!!!! not jumping down.
no way to climb down.
so i rang shirl, luckily she was about to shut shop and i was supposed to pick her up, so a taxi was called for instead.

as i said, id chucked the brush and hose down so i had nowt to do for 25 mins 'til she got home.

sat on the roof.....still p***ing down, wet through and miserable.

couldnt even have a fag...left 'em in the house:Doh:

Taxi arrived and the driver couldnt help himself.....his car was rocking as much as the van had been.

shirl was no help either......she couldnt get out of the taxi for laughing.

so, a word of caution.......if you go on the roof......Tie the ladder. :thumb:

I wouldn't use fairy liquid as it's full of salt however not bothered much about my roof, a squirt with pressure washer suffices as the roof is seldom seen. Just make sure the solar panels are clean.
My take on a clean roof is that you don’t get the black streaks down the sides if you keep the roof clean so kill two birds and all that😊👍

Frequency is the key, use a high quantity car shampoo once a month. No miracle chemicals required.

This ⬆️⬆️

I'm sure you posted this in jest, but this is how our roof gets washed, but I stay on the ladder, not on the roof. No such thing as blue & pink jobs in our MH 😂

I saw the van roof from the spare bedroom window, so have been out cleaning it today. It’s getting dark now, so will start polishing tomorrow.

Having just been up on ours for a couple of hours today, spray with Autoglym Aqua wax, wipe off and then buff to a shine, couldn't do the from a ladder, plus checking around skylights and seals as Tam said.

Years ago I spoke to a caravan Importer at the big show about products for cleaning my motorhome exterior. FLASH liquid applied neat he said. Well I was shocked but he assured me it was top notch and did a marvellous job on the roofs after their vans had been on open ferry decks.
Emmm. It did a good job when I tried it. No doubt others will be gasping in horror. Good luck.

diluted G101 and a good hose down (the secret is sections at a time)
and do not let the just 101 cleaned area dry out,
hose it down and move on. to the next quarter it just makes the green algae disappear

Really don't need any of these chemicals that could damage paint over time . Just a hose and normal car shampoo does it.

This was my roof when I bought the van

Washed with only soapy water then polished and waxed and it's like new.

If polishing, don't forget to use a sealer or wax afterwards, that way the shine could last you two or three years before polishing again.
