Cleaning Fresh Water System (1 Viewer)

Is anyone willing to share their process for cleaning the fresh water system please.

We have a Swift Sundance and have not been away in it yet but I wanted to know what cleaner you use and how much and for how long and flushing it etc. Please

Puriclean but make sure you mix it with warm water as cold makes it solidify at the bottom of the watering can/ jug and check the measurements on the tub ie 1 teaspoon to 4.5 ltr of water, mine is 130 litre so I divide by 4.5 = 28 spoonfuls ,hope this helps.

Fresh tap water, it already contains chlorine so is ideal and cheap. Some chemicals will damage the water heater.

Another vote for Puriclean,but make sure you give it a good flush out afterwards.

We use food grade powdered citric acid bought from Amazon. First empty all the tanks and drain the boiler. Put a total of about 250gms in the fresh water tank whilst filling the tank with water. Switch on taps and run until water from the tank comes through. The hot may take a while until the boiler is filled. Leave everything for 4 or 5 hours then drain everything down including the boiler. Refill tank with fresh water and flush it through by switching on the taps. Keep refilling and reflushing until you can't taste or smell anything citric in the water.

I dont want to drink the water in any system.. so I buy bottled or fill a container from a fresh water supply... I use the onboard water for showers and toilet...seems like a lot of effort for little reward... maybe different if your fulltime and or off grid..IMHO

Never caused us any problems drinking the water in the system. I just make sure the tank is fully emptied every couple of days.

We use puri sol a liquid so no need to mix with water before adding.

Just done mine with Boots sterilising solution, filled tank added solution left it a couple of hours then ran through taps filling the grey waist tank then emptied rinsed out the refilled.

Be very careful that any chemical used is compatible with your van's plumbing. As said above water heaters are easily damaged. Milton liquids are NOT suitable.

Only if you leave it in the system for a very long time
Milton is a very mild bleach and as such does damage to the boiler eventually.
When I get a new van I usually pour a cupful of bleach into the tank and fill ,flush through all taps,shower etc leave it in for a couple of hours then flush it all out refill and reflush,
Note only leave in a few hours that way it will not do any damage to your system. After that I simply fill with tap water all year. I also drink / clean teeth from the tank with no problems so far 20 plus years

Have a look at Diamond Dave's YouTube video. He suggested diluted white vinegar, leave for a while, take the MH for a run and then flush out.
