Well itā€™s taken nearly 15 months with all this COVID crap, but eventually passed my C class license.
Really opened my eyes the attitude of car driving/ers in front of these vehicles, shocking to be honestšŸ˜©
Anyhow we sold our Motorhome months ago and looking at the prices currently we wonā€™t be buying anything soon.
Been looking on mobile de and it seems prices are inflated everywhere with this pandemic, may just sit it out and see what happens when everyone decides theyā€™ve had enough of the UK and the market floods with vans, I hope!

Iā€™m currently in full time employment, have worked right through this pandemic, nuclear doesnā€™t stop for CovidšŸ˜
Although I have told the boss Iā€™ll be chucking it in as soon as we have planning permission for our plot so I can project manage it (another story)
Iā€™ve done my cpc so can drive professional if I wanted and really enjoyed the course, itā€™s another string to the bow as they say, might even book artic test to open up more opportunities for part time work with agencies

You will never make a professional driver, your not allowed to enjoy the CPC courses , but only moan loudly about them ,

Glad you enjoyed it and passed hope you get your new van soon however with all your exciting plans when will you have the time?? Good luck

Ha ha yes did them online and must admit they were pretty dire, 35 hrs in front of a screen over various days was tedious šŸ‘

I am redoing mine now , what a complete waste of time and money but I am glad you enjoyed it . It must be me I just think itā€™s 35 hours I will never get back šŸ˜‚ I guess if you are new to the job you might learn something but very little really but good luck with the driving work there is a shortage of drivers and congratulations on passing your test šŸ‘.

Really admire those truckers on nights up and down the motorway.

I work nights on a rotating basis but my journeys are mostly short runs around the Midlands. These people do 4 hours have a break and do 4 hours back, every night! How they stay alert and in control is beyond me. I would have to pull over for a quick sleep!

I have thought about driving part time when I have had enough of Ambulances. There is a real shortage in the industry and the rates of pay arenā€™t bad.

No no I didnā€™t enjoy that bit of it, it was informative, but you could see the poor lads whoā€™d been driving all day falling asleep listening to the lectureršŸ˜© I enjoyed the driving, always have, used to drive heavy machinery before I went back to my trade then managing people, this has earned me good money but is really starting to feel like Groundhog Day and I need a change.

Will avoid nights if possible never enjoyed trying to get to sleep the next day, might have a foot in the door for hauling out of Penrith 3 days a week, but this is class 1 need to pass it firstšŸ‘

Although I trained as a chef I had to do my full hgv licence years ago to do my catering work and just out of interest I looked what a qualifed class 1 hgv driver was paid and it was atrocious so stayed in catering and the rest is history.

Yep pay isnā€™t good, bearing in mind the responsibilities they have, the hrs are long and pay not good, think Royal Mail are the best payers, to be honest my intent is to take early retirement to manage the house build and gain experience as a new driver, most wonā€™t touch you without a couple of years under yer belt, seems like catering has been good to youšŸ‘ Good move.

Did my CPC online, yawn!

HGV years ago, donā€™t use it but itā€™s handy as a fall back just need my taco card and away.

Iā€™m sorry I forgot to say well done in passing your test. Well done .

Very well done you. Iā€™ve just let mine go last October. Hopefully Iā€™ll never drive a truck again. I can if really needed get it back with just a medical. I donā€™t have CPC or Digi card anymore though.
All driver training is worth having.

There always seems quite a lot of decently priced heavy mh's on mobile.de, thats where our lovely machine was found. What I've wanted for years and a very reasonable price and a helpful ex owner, who just last week mailed me some spare black pipes.

jongood, did you buy private, how did you find the experience?

As HGV driver I see it every day...just this morning heading to work (in car) I got to road end where it joins main road.
Artic coming from right in slip road to turn left into our narrowish road.
Being a considerate understanding driver I stopped 100yds back from junction to allow lorry driver plenty of room to make turn which obviously involved coming onto my side of road.
@@@@@ Car behind.... sharp blast on horn and overtook me to get right up to junction white line.
Result..... ended up doing a nose to nose shuffle with a 44t lorry.......HE LOST šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Yes. had no problem at all we bought it from a French Guy in Luxembourg, he had owned it since 2005 and had all the bills for everything and knew it pretty well. just like buying off a decent guy in Uk, The short story I agreed the deal with him to put me on his insurance for a few days he sent me the export paperwork, I paid for it and flew out to collect it. The biggest hassle I had was getting the DVLA to register it (covid didnt help).

I would definitely buy private again but as over here you do need to feel confident about who you are buying it from.

This is the basics let me know if you want the long story and I will find time to do it.

Here s the DVLA story

jongood many thanks for that, I may take you up on that offer when we decide what weā€™re doing, waiting for costings for the house before we know what we have to play with money wisešŸ‘

I had four days of driving around and the numbers of people that really have no idea at roundabouts is scary, nearly had someone trying to pull out on a mini roundabout when it was my right of way on my test, he thought better of it, could still of been a minor or major mark down if he hadnā€™t stopped thoughšŸ¤¬

Yes indeed.... as mentioned before on this forum the standard of driving in this country and lack of knowledge is appalling.
We have a dual carriage way type road (complete with central strip of grass) that goes right up the middle of housing estate. Obviosly therefore inside the 30 zone.....NO sorry that bit is now a 20 zone.
People race up and down that and during a recent police blitz the number of folk who's excuse for Doing as much as 60mph is ....... wait for it....
BUT ITS A DUAL CARRIAGE WAY.... SO HOW CAN IT ONLY BE 20..
I rest my case m'lud..šŸ˜ƒšŸ˜ƒ

I'm the same, ie, HGV 1 & PSV 1 expire next year, and I doubt I'll renew as the medical will be annual.
The CPC has expired, and the Digi Tachograph card expires soon.
Hourly rates for Class 1 over P/boro/Spalding/Wisbech-istan way are absolute sh1te, as are those for coach driver's.

The job is long hours with a lot of responsibility for crap pay, and nearly every man and his dog (especially at RDCs) sees drivers as something they have inadvertently stepped on. I'm just glad I wasn't doing it full time. ;)

Rudski01, CONGRATULATIONS. (y) Don't let the above put you off, and go get your Class 1 if you can. :)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I also bought our Arto privately in UK. I took along a friend from the motor trade who also did expensive coachwork repairs. Being a N&B MH nad only 6 years old and 16,500 miles there was not much that needed checking.

The Police Sargeant selling it insisted on cash, which I drew from the branch of my bank local to him. All quite easy and drove it home.

I reckon I saved over 20% compared with a dealer's price and would never have needed a dealer's warranty a nothing went wrong for 6 years.

I have heard the RDCs have a distaste for the hgv freternity, and have especially very tight bays to reverse into.

I agree entirely Jock. the going rate around here for an inexperienced driver is about the same as you pay for a cleaner, you can get a bit more when you get known and trusted but nowhere near enough for the responsibility and the absolute tedium of sitting through the driver CPC. I wouldnt recommend anyone to take it up as a job unless they were prepared to work crazy hours and be away from home 4/5 nights per week.

Rudski01 unless you have some burning desire to have that lifestyle I would not advise you to go any further with it. I'm really surprised you bothered with the driver CPC, Ive yet to learn anything uselful and several times stuff has been wrong.

Some are worse than others. This is Aldi ( one of the easier ones) you have to get parallel to the line on the left with the trailer wheels between the steel frames at the back. I took the photo becaue it was abrand new truck
