I believe that a lot of the vans had to be bought by the drivers as contractors, and they cost a lot to have painted in colours for the job. Now they go bust and these people are owed money for work done and left with a fat bill for the vehicle as well as no income.

Yeh write it off as a loss against tax and sod the poor people involved, through no fault of their own.
