Hi

This is my first time posting and i am hoping someone can help with some electrical problems i have been having with my Citroen Relay Van.

The Relay is a 2016, originaly a panel van, which has then been converted into a motorhome. I had it only for a short time prior to the conversion so didn't have time to spot any of these issues prior to the conversion, so cannot be sure if they have come pre or post conversion.

First Issue i had was an issue where the radio/infotainment would switch off and reset when i turned something on which demanded a lot of power like headlights, beams etc. It would reset and come back on. Then i started to get intermitently some error messages, one about the air bag, one about oil needing changing. The air bag one reset itself and disapeared shortly after coming on (whilst driving in fact) and the oil one i reset myself knowing it had been changed recently. The radio one was the persistent one. Thinking this was due to the battery being unable to cope with peaks in demand i put a new battery on. Unfortunately this hasnt sorted the issue and the radio still switches off when high power demand items like full beam is switched on.

I found that the charger for the leisure batteries, which takes power from the vehicle power system, didnt have the d+ connected so didnt know when the engine was on or off and so was taking power from the vehicle battery even when the vehicle was switched off. I have now seperated these two systems so the vehicle and leisure system operate independently.

The electrical problems however persist. Now everytime i switch the ignition on the dials all twitch about 3 times, i now have a permanent airbag warning light (it has gone from 3 seats to 2 in the conversion so i need to see if the pre tensioner is not connected) and the radio/infotaintment unit wont switch on at all. Air con switch also doesnt work. I have checked all the fuses and changed them for good measure but no change. Van drives fine and the battery is reading a health voltage. The fact these issues have all come together makes me suspecious they are related but why would the radio not working be related at all to the airbag warning.

I dont know where the issue is, any ideas or anyone with similar issues they have solved?

A dodgy engine battery can cause all sorts of electrical glitches on vehicles.
Have your engine battery load tested as a starting point.

Sounds like your starter battery is toast unless lots of habitation things are reunning off it

Thanks for the quick replies. Not got any habitation items running off it. It's only about a month old this battery though. I'll see if i can get it load tested though.

Electrical problems somehow make the airbag module light come on and if it can’t be reset it’s a new one or a repair...

I’d also check all Earth straps..

Had a Citroen C5 once, it was the most glitchy electric problem laden thing ever!

I would check the battery first too, then ensure the starting and hab systems are truly split.

Things like the radio just not turning on at all now as well as the air con button (they run off the same fuse), even though the fuse isn't blown i can't get my head around. Why would items in common like that stop working when electric windows etc all seem to work fine still. Battery is only a month old starts the van fine everytime and has green cell on it still to say it's in good condition.

Still need to get a full load test diagnosis on the battery but has a good voltage on the multimeter and starts van fine. Found where the passenger seat has been changed the connector is not connected as the new seat doesnt have the cabling so the airbag error may be legit even though it is strange it has only recently appeared, will likely need to get an appropriate resistor or seat belt buckle to sort that.

Radio still wont turn on and air con button doesnt work. The dash hasn't been out at all inbetween this working and the failure of this. There is power at the fuse and the fuse isn't blown so that one is still a mystery.

Sounds like a bad connection/bad earth problem to me. Any chance the mice have been at work?
