Chunnel prices

Just throwing Newhaven Dieppe into the thinking pot.
Over 60 ring up to book to get 20% off. The rest of us use the internet.
4 hour journey
£162 out there (August Bank Holiday) £130 return (late September) (No discount so £228 return for old fogies who ring up and admit to being old)
7.2 m 4000kgs.

Makes a lot of sense if heading South or West when over there
Oooh, I am 60 in November :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Just did a quote and out October back November under £300 just put name and email address and had my vehicle details already then took me to time for going out and return never asked me or did weight come up

Wow, just looked at prices for crossings in mid August. P and O ferry return £270 total for return……tunnel, £260 roughly each way. That’s eye watering . Bit of a no brainer.
I've always found Irish Ferries the cheapest.

We're going across in September, is it okay to just turn up at port and catch ferry across ? Is it much dearer ?

You can book very late online with Irish Ferries and the cost doesn't seem to change. Of course this is not at peak holiday times. Never tried it on the day but I don't see why it wouldn't work but probably would need to be a few hours in advance.

We never book our return until maybe the night before and often we will leave the outbound until the last day or two. It means we don't have to go to the expense of a Flexi ticket as we are unlikely to change plans last minute.

Just out of ideal interest, when I had a semi retirement job as a continental courier, I was aske to make an urgent overnight delivery to La Rochelle. Since we were due to go away the next day we decided to take the MH. At that time I used to go freight out because as well as the tunnel being strict on freight on tourist trains, freight shuttles were a lot more frequent and didn't need to be booked. Returning empty I used Frequent Traveller tickets. Having booked the MH on freight I turned up at Cheriton, only to be refused boarding because my vehicle had 'to high a calorific value'! Apparently this applied to ant fibreglass vehicle. I was transferred to the next tourist train so only lost about 20 minutes.

Dependant on where your going don’t forget Newhaven to Dieppe 20% discount on fares for over 60s but must phone to book,
4hr crossing so no good if you have pets.
We took our dog not a problem, in fact we were first off because of him.

Problem we found is the time spent on ferry does not save anything in France compared to tunnel or Dover crossing unlike the Poole crossing but thats even dearer.

Just booked tunnel 8.3 meter motorhome for September £167 return £144 seamed reasonable don’t you think.
May I ask what dates you booked to get that price ?

when booking now and for quite a while it has a pop up about being over 3.5T. You are meant to ring them. Price goes up a great deal as then treated as freight.

most motorhomer's just ignore it and continue, through booking at if under 3.5 T
Just tried it and used the Make and Model box rather than the registration number and I got that pop up. Did you do it that way?

Would be interested to understand how you got those prices as the cheapest published Car (Not Motorhome) return is £174 for a 5 day short saver ticket. We were looking end sept beginning October so lower season and nothing even close to that.

just comes up with either registration of make and model

after which it asks if it is a motorhome thought but by that time the pop up has appeared

Are we all using the same sites to book, or do some sites have slightly different questions, and prices ?
Just a thought.

£167 outward journey £144 journey home we have traveled with channel tunnel 27 years never had a complaint always offered earlier crossing.the fist problem ever was this Sunday no electricity missure shrug 2hours later electricty they give us an early crossing but we ended up later not bad for 27yearsand so easy try it👍

The reason many of us get dragged through the other method is ,for me anyway, I cannot choose UK or French vehicle "use registration number"& have to input make and model. That then takes you to the question about commercial carriage ,choose freight or "is it a campervan" before we then get asked length etc.
And yes September is around thebprice you state but next week is 3x that whereas the dfds price remains similar & cheap until a couple of days before.

Just booked our winter trip on the Tunnel, going out 1 November and back 19 March,
both midweek at £123 each way, 7 metre Motorhome with two passengers,
only slightly dearer than a ferry but worth it for the convenience and no possibility mal de mer😁

Yes and have also just used the registration number with the same pop up appearing.

I just ignored it and carried on as normal.

That’s a touch more than 90 days are you going to Morocco ? Or do you know something I’ve not heard of 🤔

Try DFDS Dunkirk-Dover next time - probably avoid those problems. DFDS prices for Dunkirk are on same page as Calais and comparable so have to compete with P&O and Irish on the Calais route.
We used them to come back last week due to the 10% discount which made it about £14 cheaper than Calais ones, but the real benefit was not having to go through Calais port with it's bad signage and congestion as all ferry passenger vehicles have to go through the same limited number of border control lanes which we found can take a long time.

It's normally a lot more expensive if you just turn up, book your crossing as early as possible and select the option to amend or defer without any additional charges....... ....Just sayin.

Next year will be the last time we use Brittany ferries to Santander...we are Club members and used them for past 4 yrs but for next March rtn June it was £1377 !! will be Newhaven-Dieppe from then on, £275 return.. Brittany prices have gone ridiculous.

I did .Still 373 one way next Tuesday against96 for dfds
Yep, the school holidays are always a killer sadly. We have booked P and O out from Dover but paying a bit more to return from Cherbourg to Poole.
