Cheap lorry cameras.

I was given a kit of a reversing camera set.
The reason I got it as the person that bought could not get it sorted out.

It came with a camera a 7 inch screen a couple of bits of wire that he had used.
A reg plate camera in the reg plate holder.

He told me that when in reverse noting altered and the rear camera had 4 bright lights
That come on when in reverse but that was not working either he said.
They were on all the time.

Well it is a screen that you turn on and then the system is live hence a camera is on all the time.
Your able to switch from the the front cam to the rear cam.

Both cameras are on all the time until you switch the system off.

Seems some lorries and trucks use them.

So started and cut the monitor wire and fitted a waterproof plug and socket just a rubber grommet to fit to the socket to go .that is fixed into the dashboard.

I wanted it as a removable item rather than park it on the road and someone think it could be worth taking.
So out of sight out of temptation .

Extended the wire to the front and fitted the cam.

Then another length of 4 core alarm with the the back.
Wired in and fused tested and worked.
But the rear camera as I was told the lights are on all the time.
Well it is illegal to show a white light to the rear of a car van or anything on the road.
So I liked the idea of the reg plate holder camera small but will do the job.

Removed the cam from the reg plate holder
Undid 2 small screws and then split the camera into two parts and it was full up with a soft type of mastic
I was able to dig a fair bit out and traced the 4 wires and then found a blue wire link.
Cut the blue wire tried it all again yes the lights were off and the camera was working.
Repacked refitted it .

Now as the system is on all the time when switched on the reversing light cable was not wanted.
But tried it anyway and ended up with two sets of reversing lines so no wire to the reversing lamp required .

Fitted and all working. And free might not suite some but o.k for what we require.

Now have worked out a way to monitor our two dogs in the habitation area while in transit.
But not with this system…

I have a Garmin gps but that’s removable as it plugs into one of two cigar lighter sockets.
