Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone else on here is having problems with the latches on the external lockers on more recent Chausson models. These are the rectangular lockable catches which you turn to lock and then push the rectangular section in so it is flush with the surround and then lock with a key.

The trouble is that when I come to open up any of the lockers, garage etc, the rectangular section is sooooo reluctant to pop out when the key is turned that I usually end up (very carefully) having to prise it out with a small blade.

I've tried cleaning them, WD40, grease etc but nothing works. Even after taking one apart, thoroughly cleaning it and then greasing again, it still doesn't want to work.

I'm considering taking it up as a warranty issue with the dealer as the van is still under warranty, just wanted to know if anybody else has had problems. It affects all the latches so is maybe a design issue?

Thanks,
Dave

Not had that issue but they often take a few goes at pushing them into the recess before they catch..
I use a silicone spray on the plastic parts..
And often wondered how they worked internally..but thought id best leave well alone while they are all working
Andy.

what grease have you used? as this will affect the way the lock works. Silicon spray on plastic moving parts and graphite spray on the lock mechanism and key

I used a Silicon grease spray once I'd cleaned the parts up. Only on one though, the rest haven't been touched.

Had another go with one of the locks today, took it out, totally stripped and cleaned it. Even when out of the locker door, the parts are sticking together, almost as if the metal sleeve that the plastic handle slides in and out of is too small. Used silicon grease on the sliding parts but no good. I'm beginning to wonder if it's temperature related as this has only started since about November! Will try bringing one of the locks indoors for a bit and seeing if that makes a difference although I'm dubious.

Also while I'm on the subject of locks! Has any one got the issue where you have to push the hab door in to get the latch to release when pulling the door handle? Laughingly the dealer described this as a 'security feature' when we picked the van up. Have a few issues to bring up when it gets it's first service in May!
