we are currently up at La Plagne Village and our Truma heater has started to play-up. When it’s been running for a few hours, regulating at thermostat temp, it will produce a chattering noise and then switch off, red light then comes on.
I wonder if the servo gas valve is worn and struggling to open/close?

It’s quite an old heater (2001) and I’m not sure of its service history.

Any help/suggestions please

Just to update the Truma problem... I was outside the van by the boiler exhaust and the “chattering” noise seems more of a thudding/popping.. the boiler seems to be struggling to ignite.

I wonder if it's something to do with the fan ... if that's failing then it won't ignite.

The fan seems to be working... comes on at low level when Truma is switched on and blows hard when thermostat set high.

My guess is that the water heater is ‘kettling’ due to limescale buildup.

There are two fans: one to blow hot air around the van and the other to supply air for combustion. It's the combustion fan that can cause problems. Like a lot of modern gas heaters it doesn't work as you might imagine. The gas doesn't suck in air to burn as it exits the jet; a controlled volume of air is blown through a venturi. The low pressure (suction) at the venturi draws in an appropriate amount of gas to burn. It follows that the combustion fan is critical to successful operation. For example a build up of dirt in/on the fan & venturi will cause problems.

Sounds like we need to have it serviced. I had a Habitation Service just last summer but the Truma was not included.
There’s probably nothing I can do whilst we are on this trip other than hope it does not pack-up completely.
As always, thank you for the help

I’m now hitting the piste ⛷
