As it’s been ages since I bought a cross-channel ticket, what’s the consensus on the most money-saving way to cross the channel with a MH? Is it better to buy through one of the clubs or go direct to Brittany Ferries/Chunnel, etc?

I go direct, quoting the the club price IF cheaper but in the present climate of confusion, club maybe easier to access with a problem?

Just did a lot of research into this for my trip in June.

Booking direct with Irish Ferries tend to be the cheapest channel crossing. (Dover Calais) .They do take Tesco Clubcard points aswell if you have those. Makes it even cheaper.

20% off the whole ticket (excl. cabin) if the 'lead' person (name on the ticket) is over 60 (or registered disabled) with DFDS on the Newhaven - Dieppe route. You have to book by phone.

-------------

The downside of booking through one of the clubs is that if you have to change a booking whilst away their offices are only open weekdays and in office hours.

C&CC gives 10% off on the tunnel.
Newhaven/Dieppe as Spriddler says 20% off if over 60 booking direct by phone.

Don't mind the over 60 bit (as I'm very nearly there!!!) but why book by phone! I prefer online booking and phone requires more manpower so therefore shouldbe more expensive. Odd policy.

DFDS don't publicise the discount. It was part of the original agreement between East Sussex County Council, British Rail (the port owners), and the Dieppe Chamber of Commerce when the passenger service was first introduced back in (I think) the mid 50's. I've been using that crossing for nearly 50 years and as a kid used to watch the cars being craned aboard 'M.V. Brest' on a platform with a chain at each corner.
It takes no time at all and the staff are very helpful. Whether it's worth phoning for the 20% discount is optional.
