My nearly six years old 28000 miles MB E350 car refused to start on one of these cold mornings, and I was getting 'Auxiliary battery malfunction' and 'Do not drive vehicle' messages together with heaviness and occasional lapses in the electric power steering!
I swapped out both batteries and it is now like a new car, all sweetness and light...

Nice one and hope it stays that way..
The transits that use two batteries..ie a dedicated start battery and the auxiliary battery that takes care of the electrical loads when the ignition is off could do exactly the same and throw up all sorts if strange things if the auxiliary battery started to fail..
