I’ve got three of these LED strips in the van and they’re all ‘intense white’ coloured LEDs, which I’m hoping to change to ‘warm white’.

I like the lights themselves, as the angle of them can be adjusted, but they’re too bright for ambient lighting. I’ve got three further ‘intense white’ ceiling lights, for those rare occasions where I might need loads of light.

Has anyone done this type of modification, is it easier to change the LED boards inside the lights, or best to replace the entire light fittings ?

TIA

You could replace the board with a strip of aluminium then fit a self-adhesive Led strip to it. Buy decent quality Led strips I've found the cheap ones get dimmer after a while or sometimes go very yellow in a short time.

I think its the colour temperature thats the difference between daylight and warm white if you get the same wattage they will be just as bright just less clinical looking. If you are going to change them anyway why not have a go at dismantling one and see if its possible to just change the innards.

I bought a reel of warm white 12v led strip a few years ago, and it has served me well!

As long as you are happy with a soldering iron, you should be able to replace the cold white strip in your lamp with the warm white equivalent quite easily. The led strip cuts with ordinary scissors, and you just need a craft knife to scrape away the surface over the connectors to solder the power leads on.

You will find many uses: My fridge light gave up the ghost, and is now replaced with a three led section of said strip. Much brighter, and it doesn’t warm the fridge when it’s on!! A strip above the cooker, inside the existing molding is much appreciated by SWMBO! Similar in the bathroom gives a ‘new’ look!

There are many available on eBay, but the links seem to be very long! Just search on “warm white led strip”.

Look at the light comming from them I would say they are 5000 Kelvin
I reckon if you can find 4000 Kelvin ones they will be the ones you want

The 'bulb' units can be taken apart with a little care ( try dipping an end in very hot water )
Once apart any strip you like can be fitted

How about covering the lenses with an opaque window film.

As well as reducing the harshness of the light it hides the ugly LEDs and PCB board.
Now that’s as simple an idea as it gets and something I can start doing before I get home to my full tool kit in the New Year.

Just need to start demolishing a tub of Quality Street to start testing colours :xgrin:
