For some unfathomable reason the CCC are offering discounts in August (up to 25% off). Surely this signals some failure of strategy given that August is the peak season? By contrast, CMC rather cleverly offered 20% off vouchers during the lockdown. Money in the bank.

and are passing on the 5% VAT "discount". Are C&CC doing likewise (I don't know so it's a serious question not a dig)?

C&MC are giving back the reduction in VAT, which is from 20% down to 5%. This in effect is a reduction on their stated prices of 12.5%

£100 + 20% = £120
£100 + 5% = £105
So if the stated price is £120 - 12.5% = £105

...not only that but the CCC have sent a flier by post to all members about the discounts. Mine arrived today (3 days into the month). That will have cost a bob or two. It does look like a desperate move.

The ccc are just trying to get more punters due to the fact they are part of camping in the forest and they haven't got the revenue from those sites !

Not sure what is going on with either but don't blink with the C&CC discounts. I did a dummy / trial booking a few days ago and got one price. An hour later the exact same actual booking was more expensive as the discount and code had magically disappeared. Not sure if the VAT reduction is being passed down.

Can’t find a pitch for love nor money. So not sure why people think they’re panicking. However, now Some of the rallies are up and running again🤪 in York at the moment, heaven. £10 a night. So look on their out and about for ccc, saves paying the Aug prices even with the discount.

In a market where supply is less than demand, offering a discount is ridiculous. Also if all the sites are now full, the mail shot was wasted investment.

They’re probably obliged to give the VAT discount.

C&CC appear to have some sites, especially mid week, under occupied. Even some weekend spots. But these are concentrated where they have closed the toilet/shower blocks. Available pitches are mostly grass, so aimed at tenters who won't have their own facilities.

A lot of the C&CC sites can be misleadingly named, in terms of location, and are actually quite remote from towns and villages they supposedly serve. That again will affect some of the choices people make in choosing sites.

I expect the sites near sea and similar are fully booked.

I've been surprised just how many C&CC sites are not opening this year at all. If you go through them, there are plenty that say not opening in 2020, but bookings being taken for 2021.

The website is a bit rubbish too - showing full availability across August for example, but when you try to book a date - no availability. It is only if you choose to look at the full site description that you discover 'site closed!'

I'm not quite sure why so many are closed, when the market is heaving?

...and lots of those that are open, are opening without facilities. It all seems a bit naff. It wouldn't be so bad but it's such a big contrast with the CMC. I think that when things are a bit more stable, they need to take a long hard look at their management.

Yes, must say I've been a bit disappointed by how CCC have been handling the crisis from a member perspective. We are also members of CMC, but I haven't really been following them so closely.

There always sending me emails about discounts most only apply during the week and don’t count if you include a weekend

this is from their FAQ's

The UK Government have now issued their full guidelines on the cut in the VAT rate from the standard rate of 20% to 5% - we’re delighted that it does include touring pitches. The Government has made it clear it’s up to the individual business to decide whether this saving is passed on to customers; and whilst we have lost a significant amount of revenue during this period, as a membership organisation we feel it’s important that we pass this discount on to our members where we are able to. We’re happy to say the Club has lowered its prices and will be applying the 5% VAT rate for stays booked and taken during the period 15 July 2020 to 12 January 2021.

Quite a lot of poetic licence with some sites, average of between 6 and 10 miles from the named place we found! ( Apart from Barnard Castle but had to undergo a mini Krypton Factor to get into town, must have mis read the map there, need to get my eyes checked, anyone know a good optician in Barnard Castle by any chance?)
