Carthago Compact 138
I have a 2014 Carthago Compactline with this built in coffee maker, but I’ve never been able to get it working. Given that I rashly bought 100 coffee pads for it, and it secures neatly onto a designated shelf, I’d like to get it going. Does anyone have any ideas? The manual says put water in it and press go, but when I do nothing happens at all. I can’t even tell if it has power. Or even what power it uses. (Everything else is working off grid as far as I can tell)

That is different to the one in my carthago and i have not seen one like that, have you asked on the carthago Facebook page

Mine doesn't have any on off button that i can recal, i just put the pod in and it starts automatically

Have you made sure its plugged in as my plug is awkward to get to up above the machine

As Lanerboy says, the socket is up above the machine and hidden in the cavity of the drop down platform, assuming it’s similar to out Chic C-line. Just reach up and make sure it’s plugged in.
I assume you are trying it when on hookup. If you try and run it via an inverter it will really whack your batteries.

Richard.

If the 'hidden' plug is securely in the socket see if the fuse in it has blown or if you have a separate fuse for it on your EBL that needs replacing as it might have been removed by a previous owner.

I would think if it’s got power the outside part of the push button will glow a certain colour if it has power, then maybe a different colour once the pod is in place and ready to start. That’s a guess, no knowledge.

It’s plugged in. I can’t tell if the plug works though, because it’s a 2 pin one, and I don’t have anything that fits it. I went through fuses a few days ago for something else, but I’ll check them again. The previous owner was a bit cavalier with fuses!

I’ve even read the manual! It wasn’t Illuminating at all. I’m happy to pack the tassimo again, but there is literally nowhere to put it and I have to make coffee in the garage (frightens the natives a bit first thing!)

Can you remove the fitted one and use the space for your Tassimo assuming you are able to run it off a 12v plug?

I’d expect so, too. But if it should, it isn’t. And the manual doesn’t even mention it.

I think it might be broken. I was hoping someone else had one, and could give me and idea of how it ought to work.

It clicks into a fixed base, so not without something drastic! It’s a teeny shelf, too, so would need a bit of lashing to something. I doubt it would work on 12 volts, either! (Is it a 12v plug? I’d love a 12v coffee machine!)

I've just found your machine and it appears that the circle round the button should light up when it's on.

Do you have a continental plug converter. The type you take away on holiday in hotels and the like that you plug in and then use UK three pin plug appliances. All Carthagos are built with the european plugs. Its when they are sent to the UK that the dealers switch them to UK three pin plugs. The problem is that cannot access the coffee machine plug so it appears they leave this as the continental.
If you plug in a converter then use the three pin plug to attach any appliance you have and check that the socket is then working. That way you can eliminate a fuse issue. If the socket is live then cut off the coffee maker European plug put on a UK three pin plug and test the machine.

I don’t have a plug converter, as when we go to Europe, I take my English plug sockets with me! 🤣. I shall try and scrounge one somewhere.

I’m tempted by one of these. I do love a good coffee, and it’s cheaper than lithium and an inverter...😉

I think some of the forum have them, might be worth asking what they think.

I use a Nespresso Krupps coffee machine and power it from the inverter when off-grid. The gel batteries are up to the job.

It’s the socket that’s not working. I borrowed an adapter. I’ll check the fuses tomorrow. I can’t scrounge a 2to3 pin socket to check the actual machine yet.

I did figure out how to take out the super-annoying waste bin, though. That’s been driving me nuts!

I too have a new Krupps machine 1460w and 2x110 Gel batts. May I ask what size inverter you use to power the machine?

The coffee machine in my Carthago is I think around 1400w and I have a 2kw psw inverter.
Factory inverter is 1800w.

Not stating the obvious sorry. Are you on electric hook up when trying this out or using change over to inverter

The 240v mains onLy has the trip switches protecting the circuit so no fuses, they are fir the 12v system

Definitely on hook up. I used a lamp to check it, and l tried in the uk kitchen socket in case it was the adapter. (I’d be delighted to have 12v coffee, but I’m not expecting to). Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I see (although I tend to use the terms interchangeably, I realise this is incorrect!) I’m guessing there is unlikely to be a trip just for that socket, then, so the socket is likely faulty somehow. Bother!

Yes checking my C line mains I have 2 circuit breakers for the 240v supply within the van One breaker supplies the coffee machine Kitchen socket plug and a plug behind the passenger seat ( right hand drive) the other breaker manages the right hand Side sockets. If sockets past the coffee machine are on the same breaker and working that would be strange as the circuit is run out as a radial so if there was a break in a socket others past it fail to work. If it’s the end of the radial others before it would still work. Good hunting

I've done that too, it was a nuisance having to constantly open the drawer and take the lid off the bin to use it so I've removed it and the 'structure' that supported it and it has now given me a much larger unusable drawer as it now has a hole in the bottom where the base of the bin went though! I jest, Its easy to sort the hole of course! :giggle:

Just gotta decide where the bin is gonna 'live' now, I'll probably change it for pedal bin or something similar ... hmm ... on second thoughts maybe not as our Romy can open those with her big snozzle! I might have to use my Brabantia one that I had in the camper as she never got in that or alternatively I'll alter the step/stool I have which has a lidded storage section so if I cut out the bottom I could hang a bin bag in that ... will have to have a shuftie.

I NEED one of those! Where did you get it?! I get there is nowhere for a bin in the 138, but I’m not prepared to give up most of a drawer for one. Especially one that’s smaller than the one in my car!

If you mean the step/stool it was a carboot sale find a good few years ago, I'll have a shuftie later and take a photo but if you have a look for laundry bins, ottomans, etc you might find something, you just have to check the size to make sure it will fit in the gap between the existing steps and the washroom wall - if you can get one that will take your weight you can use it as a step to aid getting in/our of bed too which is why I have it there anyway.

Ours is fitted with a Nespresso Krupps coffee machine. It happily runs from the inverter when off-grid and so far the batteries have survived. We have an identical machine in the house.

I didn't get a photo taken but something like this might do the trick:

Broken Link Removed

I shall peruse. Thank you!

The coffee machine worked once, and made cold coffee. My mother gave me what she swore was a French plug, but it was in fact a toothbrush one. I think I’ve blown the fuse in that, because I can’t get it working again! I’ve ordered a real plug to see if I can get it running.

Ha! It was the socket. Now I have an adapter, it’s working fine on the other socket, although it did dispense several cold cups of coffee first, it’s finally come round to hot ones. (No clue what’s wrong with the socket, it hadn’t tripped, and that’s all I know how to fix on a one!)

It’s probably just a loose wire. If you do explore that possibility, make sure that you disconnect the EHU lead/switch off your inverter (if fitted) before venturing anywhere near the wiring behind the socket.

Ian

I’m not planning on venturing near the wiring. I might ask my neighbour nicely, though (he’s a sparky)

the only inverter in it is a an extremely dodgy one in the garage. I don’t use it, and I don’t think it’s connected to anything else. I hope not, anyway.
