Is the carrefour in Cherbourg any good for a stock up before heading home ?

Carrefour has a good range of products but the stores are big and it can be hard to find what you want. They aren't the cheapest supermarket.

I agree, a good range of stuff but not the cheapest. Have a look at Super U or Intermarche, or of course Lidl! :)

Intermarche is usually cheaper - think Asda. Carrefour - think Sainsburys. Super U - think Tesco

I was hoping for some nice French stuff - a few franc....opps euros matters not - plus of course somewhere to park , dump my waste etc etc etc ;-)

it is rare to find a dump option at a supermarket

but some do have aires very close

Screen shot for Cherbourg from Camper Contact, a very good app for aires and dumps ?

If you want 'French' stuff, you'll find that the supermarkets more away from the ports to be better. For example the leClerc at Agneaux, just north of St-Lo on your way up to Cherbourg to be vast. Ish - there are 'vaster'.

The Auchan south of Rennes is good for an eye-popper.
