Caravan club sites question (1 Viewer)

Hello! We are thinking of doing a bit of a tour of non tourist spots, possibly in Scotland, in our converted camper this year, assuming we are all allowed out at some point. We don't want to get into the situation of over crowded areas and anti motorhome locals that we've read about, so rather than wild camp we are looking at using Caravan and Motorhome sites where possible, especially as you can book ahead but change the booking with a bit of notice (just in case the weather is apocalyptic or some new variant of Covid sweeps the earth)
My questions are: Have any of you had experience of using the club site system, is it as flexible as it looks?
And second - assuming this year could still see a lot of people holidaying in the UK, are there quieter but still scenic areas in Scotland?

I frequently use Caravan Club sites and there are some lovely ones in Scotland. It is very flexible in as much as you only need to give 72 hours notice of a cancellation but you can move your booking forward as often as you like without penalty.

I foresee scotland being very busy later this year!

We use CMC sites a lot. They are very forula in that you pretty well know what to expect but the free 72 hr cancellation is good if the weather turns bad.

We are regular users of C&MC sites in Scotland and would recommend these ones -

• Brora - 2-3 minute walk over golf course to fabulous beach. Walk along beach to town. Local whisky distilleries do visitor tours.

• Dunnet Bay - direct access to another fabulous beach with forest walk across the road. Local village pub (not dog friendly) and gin distillery 5 - 10 minutes walk. Site is on NC500 route.

• Bunree - site is on a rocky beach. 10 minute walk to local pub that serves good food.

• Maragowan - on the river side (fishing allowed). Pub across the road from the entrance. 10 minutes walk into the town. Local Co-op and other pubs, river falls, etc.

• New England Bay - Site is on beach.

• Garlieston - site is split into two, waterfront and walled garden, and is in a village. Local village pub (dog friendly), very friendly and serves good food. Local bus service into Newton Stewart. Good walks all around.

Booking system is very good and flexible. They even allow you to leave early and go to another C&MC site without penalty if you don't fancy the site you're booked onto.
There are others. Let me know if you want any other info.
ps you'll notice we're into beaches, the dug loves the water! If truth be told, we think we're just chauffeurs for him!

Thank you so much, these all look fabulous! We are also dog chauffeurs! (But it doesn't matter if pubs are dog friendly, because one of ours is a bit too interested in other dogs and gets very noisily frustrated if he can't investigate them at 100 mph!)

Altnaharra. It’s very isolated and the only facilities are electricity! It’s a long way to the shops, about 30 miles. Worth staying for a few days.
