I’m on a club site this week and thinking about paying to use the site WiFi for the week ( £10 ) My question is , rather than connect / tie it to my iPad , can I use my iPhone and then use the phones hotspot so we can then share the connection between 2 iPads and a phone ?

Believe you can create a hotspot that the C&MC wifi will see as a single connection and then connect various devices off that however do remember there is usually a considerable restriction on the available bandwidth.
We never pay for C&MC wifi as we prefer the flexibility of our own mifi dongle and PAYG data sims.

Edit - been ages since I tried \ used the C&MC wifi so DavidG58 could well be correct.

I would have thought you could do that easily enough.

sadly not, your iPhone can only connect to one wifi at a time, so if you connect to candc wifi you cannot then create a wifi hotspot, you can only hotspot cellular data, this is a limitation of Apple, not sure on Android.

You need a WiFi booster to do what you want. It takes the local WiFi signal then generates it's own which other devices can connect to. However, some site operators have systems which can detect this and block it. Whether the CMC do this I don't know, it needs someone who has tried it with a WiFi booster to find out.

Hi, I am able to share my Android Phone WIFI connection to another device using Bluetooth tethering, but I think that I can only share it to 1 device, my Phone is a Samsung J3, I also us a Huawei MIFI which I can set up as an extender to us a sites WIFI

Phil

Not managed to share a WiFi connection with a phone. though only tried with Android not Apple. Android can share (hot-spot) it mobile data connection but not a WiFi connection.

Have done this with a mifi unit and a small WiFi router, but that is different.

I already have a “whoarewe” mifi device which is very good but it seems awful expensive to top up so I’m currently using my phone data up. The site wifi is £10 for 7 days which will do me nicely for now but I was wondering if I could share it between 2 or more devices by setting my phone as a hotspot . Seems not according to many comments on this thread

I've just started a 3 24GB SIM that lasts 24 months for £43. On ebay. That may or may not be expensive to you. It could be if you want to watch a load of video.

My experience of any site WiFi is that it's always difficult to connect to and the speed is, well, slow - streaming TV or videos is a no-no. Okay never tried a CAMC WiFi but even at £10 a week I wouldn't think they'd provide enough bandwidth for a whole site. I'm willing to be corrected though.

I'll stick to my trusty mifi with a "3" 24gb card - even at only 3G it's quite fast enough for my surfing needs. I rarely stream away from home, just download stuff onto a portable hard-drive which, if we're so inclined, we watch via the laptop. Which reminds me.................

Hi if your Huawei MIFI can be set to extender then you can share the site WIFI, I use a E5577 which I can set to extender or may be called booster

  • Nice One!

I'd forgotten about that, a proper booster should get a stronger signal but using a MiFi must be the cheapest way to share the connection - if CMC allow it. :)

What you should have done is book in the the CCC and used their FREE wi-fi. :D2

Why is everyone tied to WiFi , you are on holiday , one phone data should keep you going never mind pads and tablets , just get a decent data SIM and you are done.

We are currently using a motorhome wifi set up on a site in france. We can share the single connection with up to 10 devices AND have done a bit of streaming tv to good effect. It is supposed to be just one device but the motorhome wifi set up is allowing us to 'bypass' that !

Before paying, check to see what the quality of the WIFI is e.g. Gold, Silver or Bronze.
Gold sites

  • High speed connection
  • Speeds into the site range from 25Mb to 100Mb
  • Reduced latency time
At Gold sites from 2018 we have implemented 'dynamic bandwidth', so the speed available to individual users will increase outside of peak usage times.
On Gold sites, applications should function correctly, including cloud/auto updates. However, we do advise that these are disabled as they will affect the speed of your browsing.

Silver sites

  • Medium speed connection
  • Speeds range from 8Mb to 25Mb
At Silver sites from 2018 we have implemented 'dynamic bandwidth', so the speed available to individual users will increase outside of peak usage times.
On Silver sites, most applications will work, however some larger, data heavy applications may not, such as streaming videos and TV, downloading photos or using video calling services like Facetime or Skype.

Bronze sites

  • Lower speed connection
  • Speeds range from 1Mb to 8Mb (shared across the whole site)
This is because a bronze site's location and the capacity of the local exchanges means that we are only able to get one or two copper-based broadband connections to the site.
Basic web browsing will work but data-heavy applications such as Instagram, Facebook and SnapChat, will struggle and cause disruption to the rest of the site users.

Sorry to hijack an old thread, but I have just bought one of these as it said on the internet that it can be used as a Wifi extender but I cannot seem to activate this function, do you know it it still works on your unit or has it been disabled with recent firmware?
Cheers in advance
Martin

Pretty sure it is still there, but don't have a E5577 handy right now to check, just a E5785.

Do you have the HUAWEI HiLink app? I find it easy to configure this type of functionality, but you can also do it via browser too.

For the app -
  • Connect your phone to the MiFi WiFi.
  • Open the HUAWEI HiLink app
  • Login with the admin credentials
  • Choose the Tools tab, see "WiFi Extender" as below

Hi just checked mine still working as an extender, but had to use the Huawei Hilink app to login to the other network to add password hope this helps
Phil

I've tried all ways, the unit itself doesn't have the Wifi extender menu, the app will let you turn on Wifi extender but once you exit the screen and go back onto it then it is switched off again so doesn't appear to be saving changes, and via the 192.168.8.1 it just loops in a waiting screen when I select the Wifi extender menu, perhaps I have bought a duffer? 😕

Hi it should if you select WiFi extender go to a screen that will show available network's and have the option to scan for more, you my need to factory reset the Mifi.

Just done a factory reset, and still the same ☹️
Turn on Wifi extender and nothing happens.
