Can anyone recommend a stopover for a few nights on a canal or marina somewhere roughly south west of Worcester to Weymouth please. Just looking for a brief break with something to watch. 👍
Tia.

Hi SS

we stayed at the Fluer De Lyes, pub, Warwick / Stratford way, free to use as long as you use the pub, Great food, on the canal side, large car park, we were the only ones staying over night, even offered us a breakfast.

Devizes C&C site, been a few times and a very nice place.
Pub and bus stop 1 minute walk and the canal is another minutes walk.

Near Pewsey.
I've stayed here a couple of times pre-pandemic. Fascinating canal side pub too. Thoroughly recommended.

Also, a bit off your route but whilst on the canal/site subject it's lovely at the canal side pub (parking overnight allowed in pub car park if eating) and CL here:

The Fleur de Lys pub is at a place called Lowsonford - road access off the A34 the Birmingham to Stratford upon Avon road.

Between Worcester and Weymouth you are looking at the Sharpness Canal or the Kennet and Avon.
Definitely recommend Devizes, as well as the club site, there is a CS (CCC) by the Caen Lock Flight, plenty to watch there. Lower Foxhangers Canalside Farm
You cannot see the canal from the pitches though.
I can also recommend this CL (CAMC) by the Kennet and Avon which is alongside and so you can view from your pitch.
https://bathcaravansite.co.uk/. (It’s not in Bath) - I think the CL part of it is called Marsh Farm.
There is not much any further south than this

Not quite between the places you mentioned but how about the Grand Western Canal close to Tiverton?

We've just left here https://www.minnowstouringpark.co.uk/ and it has a direct secure gate access to the towpath and it's own mooring. Less than a mile walk along the towpath to Sampford Peverall where there is the dog friendly Globe Inn. Never seen any traffic on the canal during our few visits here right enough!

Very clean and tidy site and used to be a C&MHC affiliated site before David took over.

If you're into fishing they sell permits for the canal.

There are quite a few barges moored up in the basin at East Manley Bridge - where the horse-drawn barge turns round - but most of the leisure traffic in season tends to be towards the Tiverton end. One of our previous neighbours developed and ran the Minnows site before selling it on and we often pass while cycling out to friends in Lowdells at the far end. In fact we were on the towpath enjoying the sunshine last weekend.

The Barge has gone down hill a bit since you were there last but it’s not closed as far as we know😥
We only live a few miles away😊

Guessing it was Zig you know? Sold it on around October 2016 from memory.
You might have waved as you went passed as we were there Friday to Monday morning!
Weather was good but a bl**dy cold wind!:swear2:

Uphill Marina near Weston super Mare is lovely.

Did Canopus beat me to it?? 🤣🤣

Way back before then. Peter Aylward and family were the ones who developed the site originally and that must have been in the 1990s sometime, and I *think* they moved it on in the early 2000s at the latest. There’s some good history to the Grand Western Canal and a few YouTube videos about the ill fated lifts and other engineering failures that are present on the abandoned section towards Taunton.

We are booked into the Three Magpies just outside Devizes within walking distance of the Caen Lock Flight. It has good right ups on Search for Sites.

Another vote for Devizes!(y)

We can thoroughly recommend the Wadworths Brewery tour in Devizes, working Victorian brewery, their own signwriting team and working dray horses. The beer tasting at the end pretty good too!
I took one for the team and drove there as it was absolutely pouring with rain, I phoned in advance and they let me park the van easily in front of their delivery doors.
