i was wondering if when you want to keep battery usage down to a minimum,i have 4 reading spotlights on the little old caravan that i have just bought,do you have to change the whole unit,or will it be possible to just swap bulbs ? To the more modern led ones?
(i drove to the highlands of scotland to buy this little caravan,on the promise that everything worked as it should, but sadly it doesnt lol)
but not too concerned as its the layout that suits us,
i cant seem to get it to work just off battery🤷‍♀️
plugged into mains things work (except the fridge which leaks ammonia smelling gasses)
however its having a full service in october, and probably a new fridge, and heater,
sorry im sidetracking my question is ..do you just swap bulbs?
cheers pampam
ps if i could stick this little caravan on the back of a toyota dyna ,id have my perfect motorhome lol🤗

We changed to LED bulbs when we had an AT Tracker years ago, these guys are worth a look…

Sounds like your battery and fridge are knackered though, good luck!

Yes just take a bulb out... Then Google 12v led bulbs to dine the same one you have.
There are a few different styles.
Obviously if the unit is a bit dated and tired you could swap the whole lot..
Again look on eBay for 12v caravan /camper led lights and make your choice..
They also sell dimmer lights now 😎

One of the first jobs I did inour current van when we bougt it 9 and a half years ago was to replace all the bulbs with LEDs. The lights we use mainly are four spotlights and two ceiling fittings. Having used Aten products previously I bought LEDs for the spotlights from them. The ceiling fittings were a little "tired" and the most suitable replacements were from Ledbulbs4u. For the lesser used fittings I decided to try eBay suppliers (two in China and one in the UK) as they were significantly cheaper - the LEDs have worked fine so far but they are less robustly built than those from Aten and Ledbulbs4u.
A decision to be made with LEDs is whether to use Warm White or Cool White - very much personal preference. The easiest place to compare is at a motorhome show where several suppliers will have both on display.

I changed our spot lights to back pin disc led

Swapping the bulbs shouldn’t be a problem - just make sure the contacts are the same dimensions as the ones you’re removing. As Reusables said, they sell dimming light units now - I’ve put a couple in the ‘van - and they even have USB ports on them……… (y)

I've changed the lounge area spots for LED but never managed to find an LED that's dim enough for a reading light over the bed (use a tiny torch nowadays like a schoolboy).

No filament lighting in our bus, at all. Just LED. Lots of it. When our boys have them all turned on, planes try to land on us.

Even the headlights are now LED Cree bulbs.

Agree with the comment about reading lights being too bright. We got a tiny paintbrush and small pot of black paint and dabbed a dot of paint in the centre of the lens. Just a tiny dot. We tried a small dot of insulating tape but it wouldn't stick.

In the end, we simply removed the reading lights and covered over.

I will second giving these a call. I emailed them last week to ask if they would be attending the Lincoln show as i needed to replace one of 4 reading lights i bought from them 4 years ago as the led had gone(was told when i purchased them the led could not be replaced ,had a 3 year warranty).
I was told they would not be attending anymore shows , Saul from Aten lighting replied asking for my address and he sent me a replacement unit out free of charge:giggle: . Not often nowadays that you get simple but great customer service, well done Aten Lighting i say.

Cheers Cris.

Fabulous company to deal with. Our remote control box for our awning light failed after three years. I asked the price of a new one and Saul said if I posted it back to them they would fix it or exchange it. A new one arrived by return with my postage taped to the controller. Brilliant service!

As an aside the Chinese led’s you buy are 12volt, Aten lighting supply 8-30v so are not overcharged when your hab battery is running at 13-14v.

I have had this for 2 years now. It works perfectly and can dim (and switch on/off) a number of Led lights:
