We have booked a return for me and the wife and the car on the tunnel. The intention is to get the car MOTd in the UK and immediately return to France. We are leaving the motorhome here. Because we fear the French may close the border any day, We are now looking at my returning with the car on the tunnel alone and the boss remaining in France. The booking is in her name as the lead traveller. Does anyone know whether I can still travel on my own? I've tried ringing Eurotunnel but the phone is engaged.

You could try logging into the account using the booking reference and see what it lets you do.

However, if its a frequent traveller booking then the person who is named on the account must travel.
If not frequent traveller, I would expect you could amend it.

Thanks Riverbankannie-I've looked at the site and, whilst it appears the ticket is for the vehicle, the passenger details are not required Calais to Folkestone. I'll telephone them in the morning to confirm that I'll be travelling on my own.
Thanks.

I agree with what Annie has said above - is it a frequent traveller ticket?

No; it's not a frequent traveller ticket.

In which case I can't see a problem with being able to travel solo without the wife.

But if France close the border you‘ll be separated from your van and wife for some time....or is that the plan?
That is a risk and possibly her plan! ?. But seriously, you've identified the dilemna. If we both go to Folkestone and the border is closed, then the van would be stuck in France and the insurance would lapse. Hopefully (for me), I'll be back in France before France closes the border. ?

You will need the card you booked the trip on to out into the Checkin machine but never been asked about passengers or lead names.

Can you not change the date of the ticket for later, you have up to a year from when you bought it, then buy a new ticket with just you and the car.

Just turn up and one of your party is a no-show as long as there are no issues as Annie has mentioned.
As a solo traveller I have often booked for 2 as that is cheaper than paying the single supplement and never had a problem. The operators are not bothered as they have the cash.
Only thing I would say, if travelling on a ferry make sure that they are informed at the dock that your party is one less, as if anything horrible happened the emergency services are looking for a no existent traveller.
Good luck hope it goes smoothly

I believe before you travel you are asked to input passengers details as you are when you fly. Can you not log on, go to manage my booking and remove your wife's details.? Otherwise just turn up, check in is different to customs and no one ever seems to count passengers.

It's not looking good with Germany closing its borders with France and apparently Macron looking at closing French borders. So we might not risk separating and find that I can't get back into France and SWMBO being stuck in France with Moho.
Does anyone know if you Sorn a vehicle and then it's mot expires, whether you can later un-sorn it and drive it to get an mot?

They usually need to know who is travelling but don't require full passenger info (API) for returning to the UK, only leaving, no idea why and it seems a daft thing to me but that's how it is.

NO and NO ... a definite NOOOOOOOO ... sorry.

Would it be simpler if you both returned to the UK one driving the car, the other the MH?

o. I was able to get a train two hours early. The terminal was desolation itself with everything closed apart from the toilets.

I had an anxious night in Folkestone as Macron made his announcement of closing the borders to non-EU citizens, relieved that it didn't apply to U.K. citizens. The car passed its MOT ? and after a lovely breakfast in sunny Folkestone, I went to the Chunnel. I spoke to someone there about bringing forward my crossing by a day and that there was only one passenger. She ŵas very helpful and printed put a docket ( again, the booking reference was all that was required, not the card used pay for the ticket) but, instead of giving me a ticket with a letter to hang on my mirror, she told me to present the docket to customer services who would see whether they could waive the £40 supplement for travelling a day early.

In the event, the two women in the deserted terminal were helpfulness itself and I was given a crossing in 40 minutes with no supplement. They said that crossing into France was deserted but busy the other way. They laughed at my quip, when they alcohol-gelled their hands, that my hands had dealt with more alcohol in a week than my liver had dealt with over 50 years!

I was the last car on the train ( I could see all the way back behind me). After an uneventful crossing, I drove down the A26 to Epernay and onwards to Auxerre. The roads were almost totally deserted apart from some trucks. At Epernay, the police stopped everyone and I was asked whether I had a certificate authorising my journey. My franglais was adequate to explain that I had just arrived that morning to pick up my wife who was in Burgundy. I was waved on with the copper only having the slightest smile at the notion that one could choose to legally abandon their wife. (I made this last bit up)?. After a 7 hour drive I arrived "home".

Thanks everyone for your helpful input. I hope everyone gets to where they want without difficulty.
