Hi there, wife has a better sense of smell than me and she thinks we have a gas leak. How can I test for that? We have unscrewed panels and used soapy water as far as we reasonably can. I'd be willing to buy some sort of pressure testing device. TIA

There are many hand held gas detectors out there ranging from £25 upwards. Have a look on ebay or Amazon.

When our gas bottle is almost empty we get a smell from the fridge area. Fit a full bottle and the smell disappears.

Logically the regulator should keep the pressure constant but I’ve been told that with a nearly empty supply then the pressure drops and the seals in the fridge switch (manual) open slightly. No danger of a fire or explosion but an annoying smell!

You can but leak detector spray from toolstation ,its far better than soapy water be cause if you have a large leak soapy water will just blow away and not form bubbles.sniffer probes are also available.
If you have rubber hoses then these do leak eventually as gas can permeate through them..Rubber hoses always smell gassy.Best to replace with stainless steel hoses.

I remember many years ago parked on the A112 near Sète. This German old dude had just changed a gas bottle over. He used a cigarette lighter to check for leaks. 100% true. I moved our Motorhome further away.

If you have to use soapy water instead of the correct LDF give the fittings a good rinse with clean water afterwards as it can damage the components.

Thanks for all the advice, I have a gas detector on order and will clean all my fittings when I go to try it out.

How big a flame do you think that would produce?

Testing pipework with fluid and checking for bubbles will pick up smaller leaks than any standard gas detector.
