Not as good as a hard shell though. We have same issue and use inflatables but would love to be able to take our hard shell ones. Unfortunately can’t get a roof rack due to amount of stuff on the roof and that the existing awning is bonded on.Get an inflatable!
Try the advanced element advanced frame or the advanced elements ultralight we’ve had both in the past. Not as good as a hard shell though. My hard shell kayak is too big to fit either behind or on the roof, so I bought an inflatable which is under my bed, as sonar says, muck better security, there are obvious compromises between the hard & inflatable but ……You could carry it inside if it was an inflatable.
and the chance of having it stolen would be less as it’s not on show.
You could also consider decathlon, I got one of their dropstitched, it’s not a hard shell, but good fun & 1/2 the weight & cheaper than the ones mentioned by TheMachMan, I couldn’t stretch my wallet that farYes have looked at Advanced Elements, there‘s a new generation of dropped stitch kayaks that look interesting. However they are expensive and none quite have the features, they also don’t have the same performance in windy conditions. But that’s likely what we will eventually buy.

Had sevlor inflatables as well but found the advanced elements 1000 times better but better comes at a price. My Sevylor 2 man Kayak came with stiffener boards and splash covers. As you say, not quite as good as a rigid but, if you pumped it up hard, it was pretty good!
I've not used it for a few years due to old age, must get it on classified?
Ridged drop stitch sides. ?This is the one I got
