I’m a newbie

Hi all.
I’m new to motorhoming and bought my first motorhome 2 weeks before lockdown ?.
Can anyone tell me what the convoy controller is under the step control and what it does?
It doesn’t seem to have any power to it, but I don’t really know what I’m doing yet.
Is there something else I need to switch on to make it work?
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Hi and welcome.

The controller looks to be a fridge fan control. This aids the fridge in cooling during hot periods. There should be a fan or 2 behind the top vent of the fridge.

It's a Brunner fridge fan control as shown here Brunner fan

Thanks, I didn’t realise how complicated a motorhome would be. Especially an old one!

Looks like a fridge fan controller, check behind the top fridge vent to see if there are fans mounted behind it.

Hi.
Yes there are 2 x 12v fans at the back of the fridge.
Any idea if there should be power to the controller when the hab power is on? Or all the time?

I would expect it to be on all the time.

Most are wired to permanent 12v supply, as fridge is important and the fans don’t use much power.

The switch operates the different modes. Top of switch in the fan runs permanently at full speed. Middle position off no fans running. Bottom pressed in the fans are operated by a temp sensor mounted by the fans that operate the fans when they are required, and at different speeds.

Thanks for all the replies.
I’ll get the volt meter out and figure out why there’s no power.

Could it be wired so there is only power to it when the fridge is on? I don't know, just guessing but if I was to wire it up I think I would consider doing it that way ..... no fridge operation , no fan.

That is the way I would wire it, into the power circuit for the fridge, which is right by where the fans are fitted anyway
