Do you have an exhaust vent for boiler below window?
On our dethleffs if the window is opened it shuts down the boiler to prevent fumes entering.

Yes we do, there is a black switch on the same window at the bottom to turn the gas boiler off if this window is opened. The white box I'm asking about is at the top of the same window but I do not think its use is related to the boiler.

Could it be something to do with the internet, wifi perhaps ?

No WiFi/internet in the vehicle. I did wonder if it is trying to be a TV aerial.

It looks to me like a reed switch possibly related to a window alarm?
Is there a little magnet (possibly in a plastic case) near it?

Please don’t look at the black switch as this was just to answer the question as to whether it was the Truma heating safety switch. The heating switch is black. The one I am chasing is the white box in the initial photos. Sorry if by posting the photos of the black one I am confusing people. Apologies.

I believe it’s a tv aerial as I think you can see part of the word coaxial on the cable going to it.
I agree but Hymer's have a whip aerial on the roof together with amplifiers that covers DAB FM & TV.
However most UK dealers don't appear to know this

As already suggested, trace the cable and your question may be answered

I’ve tried to trace the cable but it disappears quickly behind a top cupboard to which there is no access unless I start stripping things down which I am reluctant to do as I have a theory that any trim/fittings once taken out and put back could just add to the potential for new rattles!

We have the whip aerial on the cab roof so that should cover the DAB/FM side of things and possibly GPS.

this looks like it would say “coaxial” so tv related.

TV related seems the likely one, but why would Hymer fit this when the wasp aerial covers the same thing?

Because. UK dealers haven't a clue.To get the Hymer one working you have to enable 5 v attena power on the TV to power the amplifier.

Hi KnolePark did you get to the bottom of this?
We noticed that we have one in our new van (still waiting for DVLA) when we were having a look the other day. I think it is definitely a TV aerial. Seems as if its made by Alphatronics.

Edit: I should say that the model above might be a different Aplhatronics version as I think ours is Active DVB-T Antenna, but you get my drift.

Hi. No I didn’t.

That’s a close but not identical match and I suspect you are all correct about it being for TV. I did a scour of the internet and couldn’t find a match (even the one you have successfully found), and I would have expected to do so if it is a generally available aerial.

Call me old fashioned but my experience of using a portable aerial was that I have to move it around until I get the best signal. This is fixed to the van and I’m not going to be moving the van around until I get a signal. Perhaps digital is different in terms of receiving the signal from the mast as I see the description on your link says “omnidirectional (360°)”.

So let’s settle on it being a digital TV aerial. In this case it was fitted from new by Hymer and I see on our specification sheet it says “TV pre-installation and aerial” RRP £270.00. We didn’t spec the van, the dealer did, for their stock.

Having learnt from your answers above, the wasp aerial above the cab also works as a DVB aerial so why we have two aerials for TV I have no idea. Understood if the dealer had fitted it and didn’t know better - but this was surely fitted by Hymer at the factory together with all the other extras the van came with.

From the Hymer price list of the time - option 87211

So to help others out on this subject, where does the TV lead from the wasp aerial end up? I suspect it might just go to the rear of the radio/sat nav/multimedia unit fitted to the dash so you could have the option of watching TV on that unit if it can do that. Can anyone confirm?

As that aerial lead may only be accessible in the front cab you would either need to extend it to reach the middle of the van, or to fit an additional aerial such as the one we have, close to these sockets. Does this seem plausible?

I was watching another dealers video of the same van we’re picking up and this is where I saw the aerial, hence remembering your thread and getting in touch. I’ve taken a photo, not the best, of the antenna, from the video, in its packaging that might help. You may need to squint.

That’s a match! Well done Sherlock!

That enabled me to find this photo on German eBay - model number 000660.

Yes - it’s an Alphatronics TV aerial. One was supplied with our new Bürstner van. We haven’t managed to get it to work as yet.

Have you turned on the 5v attenna supply on the TV?
Hi Lenny
Thanks for the reminder 🫢 - I’ll check the settings next time we use the TV. Hopefully, we’re going away later this week.

It's definitely a TV aerial: I have one in my ex-rental Yosemite. Was told that it wasn't very good and to use a proper external one - which I now do.
