Had an email from SVR (Stichting Vrije Recreatie) this morning -

"We may again! At the moment, almost all campsites in the Netherlands are open. We notice that there is sometimes a lack of clarity among campers: what can and may? We would like to explain that:

- The campsites in the Netherlands are open.
- You can camp here with any camping equipment (caravan, tent, camper, trailer tent, etc.)
- You are currently obliged to bring your own toilet, a washing facility is required, but this may also be a basin, so to speak. You do not have to provide a working shower, but of course you can.
- You can also choose a camping pitch with private sanitary facilities. Then you have your own shower and toilet at your disposal.
- The sanitary buildings are closed until July 1. Then they open again, but even then the 1.5 meter rule remains in force.
This is the current situation in the Netherlands. As is known, this can be adjusted by the government. The situation is changing rapidly in the rest of Europe. At this time, we advise you to keep in touch with the campsites abroad if you want information about it.
Maybe you have already read it in the newspaper? SVR has joined forces with entrepreneurs from the events industry. Together with the efforts of camping owners, we provide private sanitary facilities at a large number of SVR campsites. This makes camping more attractive for our donors in these times.

As soon as a campsite offers private sanitary facilities, you can find them on our website when you log in. Select the filter 'private sanitary'. We adjust this regularly, so that the situation is always up to date."

Sounds like they are getting portaloo type facilities on pitches for those without their own facilities.

Hopefully we won't be far behind.

Hi Joy
We are keen to return to the Netherlands this summer but are hearing different advice. I was interested to read your thread but it was a month ago now. According to this https://reopen.europa.eu/en France and Germany are fully open for tourists, but the Netherlands is tagged as
Yes, with limitation
Tourists from EU or Schengen countries can enter the Netherlands. However, tourists from Sweden and the United Kingdom are strongly advised to go into quarantine for 14 days. Tourists must reserve their holiday accommodation before they travel to the Netherlands. You may be stopped at the border if you don’t have a valid reservation.

Any idea what the current situation is?

John
(appreciate the FCO guidance is a consideration too - hoping that will change in the coming days)

Hi John
Can't really help you there, we have put our holiday to the Netherlands on hold for this year, we won't travel until FO says safe to do so but I understand that the 14 day quarantine for people from UK is still in place. Not even sure if ferry will take passengers yet.

We have however had some nice pictures from our Dutch friends on a campsite this week so looks to be back to normal on that score.

I haven't checked any of this out as we are not going.
I understand from our friends almost everything is open again but subject to SD rules.

Must admit I hadn't thought about the Netherlands for a destination. Can anyone recommend any nice peaceful sites please?

Highly recommended. We did 12 nights there in early July 2017, in and out of Hook of Holland.
Other than a random night travelling we stayed on the island of Texel - which is very touristy and quite expensive but great for cycling, beaches, big open spaces. Our campsite there was very quiet (just before school holidays). Can find the details if anyone is keen (got it - Vakantiepark De Koorn-aar)
The next place was inland in Oudega - family site next to canals and lakes (everywhere in Friesland is). Camping Bearshoeke. We hired a canoe and set out for Heeg - about 2 hours away? Tied up, had a beer and lunch then padded home.
Finally went to Lawersoog so we could do a day trip Schiermonnikoog. That campsite was bigger for families, they had a kids club and a musical train that came to pick the kids up morning and afternoon. Free childcare - the Dutch teenagers who ran it unsurprisingly spoke fabulous English and were very welcoming.
Well worth it for a slightly different experience - we are planning to go back.

We've holidayed in the Netherlands for years.
If you are a member of CCC or CMC you can use the Netherlands Caravan Club sites. (they have a good website NCC.nl and you can just drop an email to book) We have used their sites in Callantsoog to the north on the coast, easy to visit Texel and Enkhuisen (brilliant outdoor museum) and the Aftsluitdijk, Zeewolde to the north east, Brielle near to the hook of Holland/ Rotterdam, Ravenstein short train ride to Nijmegen, Venlo near to the German border, Alphen on the Rhine lovely canal side setting. You are always made very welcome, most people speak some English they are very easy going, nothing like as regimented as the UK club sites.

We also use SVR sites which are small quiet basic farm sites usually cheap camping often with ehu and you pay a few €s less if you join, always friendly and welcoming. There is also mini farm camping.

Only once stayed on a big commercial site, were near Valkenberg which is lovely and an easy train ride to Maastricht.

Update on our plans to visit the Netherlands again this summer... It may be an isolated case but despite booking we couldn't comply with their Covid-19 requirements and have requested a refund...

(emails in reverse chronological order...)

Good afternoon Laura,
Thank you for your response.
These rules are imposed by RIVM and the local safety authorities. Since the wellbeing of our guests is number one, it is very important to us to follow these guidelines.
Hoping for your understanding.
Met vriendelijke groet, Mit freundlichen Grüßen, With kind regards,

Good morning
Many thanks for the email with the information on coronavirus requirements - we weren’t aware of the requirement for quarantine and a medical certificate, can I ask is that your policy or government?
We are travelling by ferry on 14th July (as our government are announcing ‘travel corridors‘ and a relaxation of quarantine rules from 6th July) so wouldn’t be able to meet those requirements before the 15th.
Many thanks
Laura

Duet o the new Coronavirus (Covid-19) and to protect our guests, we have have to ask you if you have been in quarantine for 2 weeks, before you travel to our campsite.
For this we need a cerified mecical certificate.
