Hi,
Can anyone recommend a campsite or cl
near the M6 in the Preston area.
Suitable as a stop over for an 8.6mtr motorhome.
Alex

Would also recommend Tebay North or South services, thinks its £25 with hook up, and you then get a fiver of a breakfast.

We stayed at Greenbank Farm CL as going North after a day in Liverpool. Easy access from M6 and nice pub food down the road at The Woodsman

Thanks to all who responded to my question.
I should have said I'm going south.
I have an 8 hour drive from home in Scotland to the channel ports . Preston area is almost exactly half way.
This means it's only a four hour drive to the tunnel.

You could try Brylea Caravan Park. It's just off the new first Junction of M55 so only about 4-5 miles from J32. Never stayed there but its very local to me and always seems to be popular

Hate to disappoint you but Preston to the Tunnel is at least 5 to 6 hrs and that's without any hold ups, you would be better looking South Cheshire/ Staffs area
Thought the same, we think it's a horrible cross country run which is why we always use ferry from Portsmouth.

I guess you must be up near Aberdeen or Inverness if Preston is halfway. 315 miles to Dover, so 630 miles in 8 hours in the UK is a tad optimistic in anything, never mind a motorhome. I would plan on 2 stops. It will give a good start next day for catching ferry or tunnel. Tunnel with the cheap crossing only allows 1 hour to be late.

Not sure the op is going to Dover. Portsmouth is also a channel port😊 we stop at Fields Farm fisheries cl at J17 but it might be too far north for you. We stop there on our way home just to break the journey and we are fortunate enough to have the time.

Hi,
Your correct. I've done Preston to Dover in the car in around 4hrs 30 However in the motorhome it takes almost 5hrs.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Agree with others, its about 4 hours for me to Dover, and i am south of Coventry. And thats if the M25 behaves!

Maybe just drive through the night and hit Dover for 5am?

Post 6 say they are heading for the tunnel (y)

I am with all above, no way 4 hours from Preston.. We are JN12 on the M6 and always allow at least 4 hours so many places that can give you hold ups as well. May be worth a re-think on timing.

Come off at Junction 29 & head to Bamber Bridge. on the same estate as Rhino installs - Southrings Business Park, the Walton Fox pub next to the Premeir Inn does stop overs.

There's a large Tesco in Leyland, with a massive car park....I've walked past here many times at 7.30 am and have often seen large motorhomes parked up in the far corner of this car park.
Leisure centre is adjacent, Police station opposite, and a great chippy next to Tesco. Wetherspoons about 400 yds away.
Something to think about...

Allen

The bottom half of England is far more congested than the top half - and London/M25 are in your way getting to the tunnel. I’d suggest looking further south for a stop

Or if you're heading to the Tunnel, go down the east, A1, M11? Whichever way, look at Search4sites.
