I think I may have seen this simple municipal campsite at Pont de l'Arche - just south of Rouen - mentioned on here.

Anyway, we're heading north and thought we'd give it a try. Arrived on chance mid-afternoon and received a warm welcome.

I'm sure lots of Funsters know it, but first time for us. Thought the 14.95 Euro with hook-up, in July, is good value.

Right in the lovely town, situated on the banks of the River Eure. Nice view out of the back doors... Recommended. (y)

Ahh - weren't tempted by the pool at Rouen Naturist club then, obviously.
Well yes... and no. It was a little bit off our route this time, but we have stayed there. And we've been at Heliomonde over the weekend, which was lovely! (y)

Or for the mean ones just €5 pn on the aire outside the office. Spent time there last year waiting for to have my Covid test at the helpful pharmacy.
In range of the site’s wi-fi. 👍
Yeh, great value aire and a great spot. :giggle:

Yes used it lots, our regular first night stop after Zeebrugge. Would you believe it too, if you show your ACSI card, he gives you a small discount as well, how good is that. He also allows the campers in the Aire that he manages use the site toilets and showlers for free. Not sure I’m too happy about that as it increases the potential wait times, as there are only 2 of each, but I personally have never had to wait. Easy bus into Rouen and a fantastic bakery a couple of minutes walk away

Each to their own but I don't understand how you can have a campsite by a river that doesnt seem to have any view of said river, whereas the Aire outside does have a decent view and has already been mentioned is a third of the price. although weirdly you still have to do the booking in faff at the campsite.

Simples - we didn't fancy being crammed in the Car Park outside, cheek by jowl with the neighbouring vans.

We preferred to CAMP on grass and have our table and chairs out under the welcome shade of a tree on our own pitch. The temperature was 29c without a breath of wind, so nice to have the van in the shade too. Plenty of personal space to spread out in a garden-like setting.

Also good to have as much mains electric as we wanted. Oh, and we couldn't have been happier with the fab views from our pitch.

5 Euro for parking on the aire, next to the toilet disposal point, seemed expensive by comparison. ;)

So, no brainer for us. Horses for courses... (y)

Did you go over the foot bridge just outside the site which was once part of the Mulberry Harbour for the D day landings in Normandy?

Ah, missed that sadly.

We are on the A28 now, well north of Rouen - Mrs mikebeaches at the wheel. ;)

But thanks for the heads up, certainly interesting. Will look out for it next time, as I'm sure we'll be back. (y)

We've used the aire several times as an overnighter, but to be fair the campsite was closed on almost all the occasions. However it does quickly get full in season.

To be fair, my previous comments about the Aire were somewhat tongue in cheek...

And if it had been late in the day, we might have considered it, but we fancied getting the loungers out and relaxing. ;)

We were surprised there was plenty of space available in the camping for July, and no peak season charges. Oh and we only paid 1.25 Euro for the hook-up, which I thought a bargain. :giggle:

But just to balance the thread, here are some pics of the Aire. (y)

mikebeaches I have a phobia of Rouen due to low tunnels! I see this campsite would take me around the east of Rouen. Does it avoid the tunnels if I’m travelling down from Calais?

Yes, very much so. Personally, I reckon travelling up and down the east side of the Seine to get through Rouen is always preferable.

The scenery is more interesting and it keeps you on the outskirts, away from the city centre ( and the tunnels!). It's not especially fast because there are lots of low speed limits, and a few easy road junctions - but it's all well signed and with the sat-nav, a piece of cake.

If travelling south from Calais just put Pont de l'Arche in the sat and that should do the trick. Same thing going north too. (y)

We're just outside Calais now, ready for the tunnel in the morning. :giggle:

Used to be a good vet just across the road, nice to the dog and good English.

Yes we spotted the vet too, keep it in mind for the future although we usually use the one at Rue.

Read this thread. No dreaded tunnels. Just 2, both get high lorries under
