Just been in the CAMC site looking for a CL in Somerset for a short break. Looks like the barrage of complaints has finally sunk in and common sense has prevailed. They’ve reinstated the old system of searching for a CL in a County and near a particular town. Plus, you can search for the things you’re looking for.

Yes, it is a move in the right direction. However with the old site if you searched for a CL via the map, when you clicked on a possible site and then clicked for more details you used to get the full info you are referring to i.e. direction details, map reference etc. That is still not there.

The booking system is currently broken. A couple of sites, Black Knowle and Crossways for instance have their pricing arse about face. A non EHU pitch is dearer than a Serviced hard standing. Piss-up, brewery..... If that wasn't enough they want a whisker under fifty quid for a standard pitch at Black Knowle for mid week at the latter end of April. Heaven knows what it'll cost in August. I thought robber barons died out in the New Forest with King John.

Their booking system is all based around a computer, that's why there isn't any flexibility.
Perfect example on how to make a complete dogs dinner of a working system is when they took over Carnon Downs, Peter and his team took bookings over the phone, on their wall they had a monthly planner, a quick glance, and a note with a marker and booking sorted.
The CAMC couldn't fit that simple mostly planner setup in their computer, leaving 100's of regulars and season pitch holders to leave and not return.
Under Peters system you could even book which pitch you wanted and the site was always full.
Since the CAMC waved their magic wand over the site, people that had been seasoned pitch holders for years have left, you can't book a particular pitch and the site now has plenty of empty pitches.
The site was always immaculate throughout, not so now, such a shame when they inherited a perfect working system.

We're probably not renewing. Last year we did three months in the UK and only stayed a couple of nights in a CAMC. Used private sites mainly which were even then a lot cheaper or CLs/Cs if they were near to places we wanted to be.

The clubs have never been cheap , we stick to privates sites as much as poss .
The clubs give you more choice through the winter though when many other places are closed .
