Don't get old because when you do costs become inflated. I've held CAMC Red Pennant insurance for years. Last year I paid £427.50 but to renew this year I am quoted £1,145.70. This presumably is because I turned 80 this year. So be warned guys the Caravan and Motorhome Club do not cater for the elderly. Unfortunately I've just renewed my yearly membership at a cost of £52 but rest assured that standing order is cancelled for next year. Any ideas for alternative providers or do I have to go for a separate travel insurance and European breakdown cover? Seakerr

We take out an annual multi trip medical cover with the C&CC.
The last two years it has been £204 for both of us plus a small extra amount because of existing (non serious) conditions. I think it was about £18 extra.

We are both in our seventies.

Vehicle European cover is via our Safeguard insurance.

Don’t know what their policy is for over 80 but might be worth giving them a call.

I just asked for a quote and they came up with £420ish and I have just turned 70.

Not sure you can blame CAMC, even though I am not their greatest fan. They just sell the insurance the rates are fixed by the underwriters who hold the risk.

Adrian flux might be worth a shout, or compare the maket/ go compare

If you limit your trips to 31 days you can get Eurotunnel insurance. They don't ask about medical conditions but if you claim they would need your Dr to confirm that you were fit to travel. There is no age limit for single trip insurance.

You can also get breakdown cover with them but no idea what costs are like. Certainly worth a call.

Alternatively you could ask your motorhome insurance company if they will add breakdown cover to the policy.

We always use this, I've got a few moderatly serious preconditions, so find it very reasonable. Touch wood not needed to claim however.

We were members of RAC arrival via the camc. I normally negotiate them down in price with some success. But not this year. So added breakdown european cover the the motorhome and motorbike insurances for less than half the cost.
Travel cover is a different ballgame. Minefield of questions so think carefully how you can truthfully answer them without shooting yourself in the foot. Our renew due start of Dec, just before we clutter off to Spain. Hopefully by then there will be no outstanding medical issues.
