Burstner ixeo
I have recently purchased a 2012 burstner ixeo moonlight fiat 130 and was told by the dealer that the cam is chain driven. But I think it might only have a chain between cams but still have a timing belt which should be replaced can anyone confirm this please and does failure of the belt still result In engine damage. Thanks.

We have a 2012 2.3 150bhp and it is belt, the recently sold 2015 2.2 was chain.

On the Fiat X250 what Gaston aires posted is true (not sure about the X290 but I think it's the same), if there is no evidence of the belt being change recently, get it done, it will cost you between £600-£1000 but, if it breaks, it could cost you thousands!

(These belts are both age and mileage related. Just because it's, possibly, only done low mileage, do not think it will be okay.)

I might be wrong but pretty sure you can't have the 3 litre in the the X290. A real shame because it was a much better engine than the 2.3 litre.

My 2013 Fiat 2.3ltr has a belt, well I hope it has, if not I paid a lot of money to have it changed for nothing.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I am going to take the vin number to my local garage to see if he can tell me, I was sure that it wasa belt but dealers mechanic insisted it was chain. I will update later.

I found this on another forum, when I was trying to find out about my 2011 2.2 Peugeot boxer.

A relative bought a mh with what they believed and the V5 said was a 2.3 and when I looked at the engine it was clearly a 3 litre, later confirmed as supplying dealer error.

Whichever it has, they need to be checked out. Chains rarely fail but they stretch. That can be just as damaging. Believe me. I speak from experience
