Hi, we are hopefully on the tunnel next Wednesday and have 4 weeks to get to Alvor, it is our 1st trip with a dog and we are looking for nice lake stops or beach stops en route, we are hoping for sunshine too. Any suggestions would be so helpful. Thank you

If you hug the west coast as you go down Hourtin Port Plaisance is lovely Camper contact 1746. It costs up to €11.30 pn inc elec, if very busy you may have to split it though. It’s near the Archachon basin past Bordeaux.

It’s on a massive lake rather than the sea but has a lovely big swimming beach, shady Aire and if you walk right from the swimming beach past the marina there is a large area with little beaches and trails that dogs are allowed on. There’s also a selection of restaurants and a little grocers.

Not the cheapest, but idyllic if the weather is good. I will try and find a couple of pics.

Thanks so much avenue, that’s exactly what I was dreaming of, and if the sunshine’s too that will be superb

Coulon is rivers not lakes but lovely stop with walks and cycling. By Niort

We stayed there last year and loved it, not sure if we can cycle yet until our new dog gets used to bikes, I cannot find a dog basket large enough for an 11kg dog only bikebuddy which is very expensive and I am not sure if she would sit in it yet

weve stayed at Sanguinet en route to Tarifa a couple of times not far off route
choice of aires by the lake
i think in high season theres a charge but was free when we were there

and weve used the (free) aire at St Denis les Ponts when using the N10 easy run by Chateaudun
its an old municipal campsite on the river Loire
big field
we walk the dog just up the road by the river
