I'm a slightly less experienced newbie and still learning
Hi All

Lost mine the renewal before last (eye problem), was issued a standard B1 licence then and once again since.

On a recent post 'Stewart J' advised and showed paperwork that the standard eyesight requirement for C1 is the same as B1 he also explained problems that occurred with his renewal may have been down to the fact that he inadvertently applied for D1.

In retrospect I feel I may have done the same when I lost my rights.

I therefore wonder if anyone has any knowledge of a procedure if there is one? whereby where one might apply to DVLA to have their C! rights re-instated.

I believe there have been posts in the past on this matter however a 'search' on C1 is not bringing them up.

Any guidance/assistance appreciated.

As said, it's easy to get CI reinstated if no medical problems. My wife reverted to a B1 in June 2020 due to lack of availability of medical examination facilities due to Covid.

She applied last year to have C1 reinstated along with Forms D2, D4 examination from D4drivers and a covering letter. She had her C1 back within a week!

If in any doubt about your eyesight, get page 2 of the D4 completed by an optician who will test your eyes to the necessary standard. This will negate the need for the Snellen eyesight test at the doctors.

If you are of a certain age, the eyesight test should be free at the likes of Specsavers and you can download and print off the form D4 from the DVLA website so it will cost you nothing to try!(y)

Good Luck!

I only have the same issues I had when I applied for my previous licence renewals. In fact my eye sight is now perfect after having cataract op on both eyes. I imagine its just the gross incompetence of DVLA, pure and simple !

It foes take a long time if there are medical issues involved. In reality your 8 weeks ,some cases have taken 6 months.

I lost my C1+E grandfathers rights seven years ago.
I had glaucoma in one eye which on the various field vision tests showed a small reduction on one edge of the affected eye even though that area was covered by the unaffected eye.
Subsequent eye tests recorded 20/20 6/6 vision.
In view of the hassle with DVLA medical I made the decision to settle for my B1 and 3500kg limit.

may depend on what van you drive, over 3.5 its gets complex as they call it a group 2 driving licence and group us with professional drivers .
